Topic Dog Boards / Health / Puppys First Vet Check

Hi All,

I am getting my first puppy on Thursday and want to know when the best time would be to take her for her first vet trip?

My vets offer a free puppy check up and then they weigh them etc and you can book the vaccinations in then.

When would be the best time to take her? Is Thursday afternoon too soon?

Yeah I mean in the unlikely event that she has got fleas or anything then want to make sure she is in good general health anyway and need to put her on my insaurance etc.

At the moment we have two cats and no fleas etc etc. So want to make sure all is well!

I cant actually wait! I have Thursday and Friday off work so nice 4 day weekend :-)

Did you take your puppy to the vet with a collar and lead? Or just hold her?

Just hold her. She's too young to be put on the ground (other than at the breeder's house and yours) until she's finished her injections.

He was really tiny and we were worried about the other pets jumping up ( our first pup so first time in vets ) so we actually carried him in a small plastic box ( the sort that have lids-storage box ) which his bed fit in snuggly.
He needed worming :(

Thanks for that, I was thinking that :-)

Aww killichick that sounds so sweet!

I think I will take her in my cat box, its one that comes in half so will use the bottom half :-) with the blanket!!

Unless she is used to the cat box, this will unnerve or worry her. If you are anxious about taking her, she will feel your anxiety....so relax :-) Visits to the Vets to be a positive thing, and not a worry. Dogs always pick up their owners anxieties and as her leader she will look to you and you must lead by example. Be confident and sensible. Enjoy the experience.

Enjoy holding her and showing her off. If there is a barky dog in there, just quietly wait outside until the dog has gone in. I have had my puppy to the Vets twice this week :-( and she has enjoyed all the fuss everyone has made of her.

Remember everyone in the waiting room will love a puppy!! Make it a happy visit.

My contract states that they have to be taken in the first three working days, so get your new puppy booked in and keep us up-to-date!!
