You can have your dog x-rayed by any Vet for hip scoring,a nd the plates are sent off to the BVA for scoring.
You may find you get slightly better results though, and also a pretty good idea of how good the hips are from a specialist vet who does lots of scoring.
Recently I opted for an experienced Vet to have my youngest hips done, and two friends from Somerset and another friend local to me took our four to be x-rayed at a Vet who knows what they are looking at with the x-rays. We travelled to Hereford. Waiting for the results now and will be interesting to see how close the Vets guesses are.
Also the cost were far more reasonable.
Three years ago at my Vet I paid over £170, and the girl from Bridgewater was quoted £180 to have her dog hip x-rayed, we paid just over £100 (inclusive of the £35 BVA charge) at the vet we used and the dogs were just sedated.
