Topic Dog Boards / Health / No appetite following illness

An eight year old crossbred bitch belonging to a friend has recently been very ill following bouts of vomiting over several days.  She was kept in at the vets on a drip having being diagnosed with the early stages of kidney failure (as a symptom following the vomiting rather than a cause).  Her kidney levels appear to have returned to normal, but my friend reports that she still has very little appetite.  She has tried all the tasty treats I could think of to try and get her, to eat, but with little success. These include chicken, scrambled egg, mince, rice, tuna, normal dog food, arrowroot biscuits (always a winner with mine).  Can anyone think of any more - I'm going to suggest white fish.  Apparently, she's never liked crunchy food much (her teeth have been checked).
Also, would tree bark powder/slippery elm be appropriate, given the complication with the kidneys, which has to be kept in mind?

I always break up some liver cake over the meal and it often gets them started or at least tempts them into eating some of their food.

How about mixing some Chappie (quite smelly) in with some boiled rice?

Some tripe - nice and smelly to tempt her. PAH sell small packets of frozen tripe so could invest in one packet to see if that works.

I always use B Sorb to stimulate appetites

My stand by is pilchards in tomato sauce, very few dogs can resist.

How about natural low fat yoghurt with biocultures? Dogs love it and the healthy bacilli help to reline the gut and get the digestion working properly.
Mix with rice or anything really.
