We are planning a holiday to Cornwall (near St Ives), we have already found ourselves somewhere to stay where the dog can come too. Please can anyone tell me about dog friendly beaches, good walks, dog friendly places to visit etc.

Cornwall is very dog-friendly. :-) They seem to be allowed on all the beaches, and the Cornish Cliff Path (which runs the entire length of the coast) is an excellent place to walk, but it's best to keep them on a lead because of sheep and the danger of the cliffs themselves.

You have to visit Newquay if your going to cornwall and also Pentyre or Pentire not sure how its spelt, is a peeeerfect place to walk the dogs, long winding paths through the cliffs but all safe :)

I love Cornwall, I usually go alot in a year and we always take our girl as most B&B's take dogs as well :-D

Fistral is a great walk, but need dog to be on lead I think nowadays, unless no one is around lol

Yes we are really nice here in Cornwall, we love dogs and even let them in the shops!  Regarding the beaches they are not all dog friendly but a lot are.  Par is another good beach to run your dogs on.  The tourist board used to publish a leaflet about dog friendly beaches so worth getting in contact to see if they still do.

I have a leaflet of all the friendly and non friendly beeches i will pm you details, I'll find it out later :)

highly recomend the beach at low tide, at Penwith strand and not far from st ives.

There's a beach  near St Ives at Lelant called Porth Kidney that is perfect for dogs and no restrictions, we make a point of stopping off there when ever we're out and about. if you ask some one for directions to Dynamite Quay you'll be able to park right on the beach, or just head for West Cornwall Golf Club and you won't be far away from the beach. If you get stuck for directions, PM me and I'll send a link to the map for directions.

On Hayle side of The Saltings is The Towans, very popular with local dog owners so can be busy at times.

Further up the coast towards Newquay which I would avoid like the plague is Holywell Bay, no dog restrictions and has freshwater running across the beach.

Going back the other way towards Penzance is Long Rock, again no restrictions and with parking along side the beach.

Kerrier district council has some beaches with dog restrictions others with out, After 7.00 pm there are no restrictions on any of Kerriers beaches but the dog warden does patrol and issues fixed penalties to those who "forget to pick-up"

Thanks for advice re beaches etc, i have now visited the tourist board site and got a list of beaches that allow dogs in Cornwall, seems like lots do, so that is good.
Has anyone walked the coastal path from St ives to lands End, and can you tell me what it is like for humans and dogs, can dogs be off lead on that path, can we get down to the beach from it, and where are parking places where we can access it, as we would probably do it in sections over 3 days.

We've done the bit from Cape Cornwall to Lands End (good parking at both ends of that stretch). It's pretty up-and-down, naturally! You can get to the beach at Sennan and at a couple of other small places if the tide's out, and a well-trained dog can be off the lead, but of course the combination of rabbits or sheep and a cliff edge can lead to tragedy. It's a lovely walk though.
