Hi

just wondered if any of you use furminators and have you noticed a big improvement in the amount of hair all over the place/your clothes etc

I'm thinking about getting one but they arent cheap.....

thanks

I've got one and it's great, gets loads of loose undercoat out. I bought mine on ebay for about half the RRP but I've heard poundland sell something very similar if you didn't want to spend too much.

i don't have one, but i have got a Mars Coat King-i picked it up at crufts for £13, and its brilliant! It wasn't what i actually i wanted-i just wanted a shedding comb because Bu's coat is just so thick, a normal comb is useless when his coat's changing. I thought i'd give it a go after 3 of the girls on the stand recommended it, and it was the best buy of the day. I only use it once a week or so though-i always feel a bit weird using something thats intended for matts or tangles, on a dog that has none......

i brought one at richmond last year and it cost me 40.00 for the large one but i think its been worth it as when the boys were mouting just before xmas we used it and it takes out the dead fur much quicker so the new fur can come though, thus it sort of make the coat grow though quicker which meant i could show again in the middle of Jan where as  before i had to wait until after crufts before they looked good again.

so i would say very much worth the money.

Is it any good for coats that need hand stripping?

But a Coat King isn't intended for matts or tangles, it's a stripping tool. I use it extensively on my American cocker because it's not worth handstripping him when he isn't much of a show dog, but clipping would ruin his coat. I also use it on my Cavalier girl as she gets fluffy dead undercoat when she's due in season, and I also use it a lot on my clients' spayed bitch Cavaliers, it's great for stripping out all that woolly coat they develop after spaying! I do have a furminator but was told after I bought it that it does much the same as a Coat King so I've only tried it out once.

Just came across this link on another forum - there's a video showing clips of a furminator in use on several dogs. Makes me wish my dog was long haired  Looks very satisfying :-D

ETA: The pics on here are just
