Is there anyone on here who has used one of these diets and kept the weight off afterwards?
Are you supposed to continue on these shakes/meal replacements after you get to your goal weight or will you be able to eat 'normally'?
- By melster122 Date 14.04.08 16:19 UTC
I know quite a few people who have done the Cambridge Diet and kept the weight off.  It is like all diets really though.  If you eat too much after having lost weight it will go back on.

You have to follow the Cambridge Diets plans before you go back to eating normally and no you don't have to have shakes/meal replacements once you get to your target weight but you can if you want to.

kiger- can you just walk into boots and buy it over the counter? what does it involve? shakes, bars, soups?  thank you..

Well lost the plot this weekend, and gained 1 1/2 pounds, oh well I have been very good since the new year, and this is only my second backsliding week with a gain.

Total lost 1 1/2 stones, another 5 to go.
- By Jolene [in] Date 16.04.08 06:59 UTC
Never mind Barbara, a little slip is allowed once in a while, otherwise it gets boring! I set myself a goal to lose a stone before I allowed myself any wine, so luckily, managed it in time for my 40th this weekend! then it's back down to the nitty gritty :-D
- By Brainless [gb] Date 16.04.08 07:19 UTC

ASA.....Yes, I have used the Micro Diet (in the 80's) and the cambridge diet, again in the 80's but this one is still going.
You do have to be careful when you are at your target weight with what you eat to mantain that weight, and there is a great risk of putting the weight back on as fast as you lost it if you don't keep a rigid eye on what you eat. In my case, the weight came back to an extent quite quickly on 1.000 calls a day but I came straight off the liquid onto food. I 'yo yo'd' with my weight, using the diet between weight gains, which did me no good at all. When you are on the liquids, about 440 calls a day or thereabouts, your body can think it is in starvation mode and hangs onto everything it gets, so once you give it more food it holds onto it....well at least that what happened to me. However, I see now that there is far more support for this system of weight loss, and weight loss is monitored and in stages, so you lose a certain ammount of weight, then intoduce 'real' food and slowly reach your target, a far eaiser and more natural way which allows your body to adjust to whats happening. Of course, its then what I think is the hardest part of dieting, maintainence! if you slip into your old ways that put the weight on, then of course, whatever plan you took to get there, you will put weight back on. So a good, nutritious eating plan needs to be sorted out for when goal weight is reached, along with exercise. Liquids are a speedy way to lose weight, but if you have a lot to lose remember the skin that has stretched when you were fat also needs time to shrink back, a fast huge weight loss may well leave extra skin folds that you won't like whatever weight you come down to, a slower rate with exercise will help the skin to pull back to the shrinking shape. Think of those that have gastric surgery and lose many stones, they always need surgery to cut the loose skin away.

If I were to go the drinks way again, I would sign up to the total plan and keep going to the counciler. Unless you buy it off ebay thats the only way you can get it. Lighter Life do a similar system, with plenty of help and support. Both will advise you should you have a medical problem, or if you are on medication which means you should not use this method. The advisors are exceptionally helpful online and phone before you start any of these. Whatever you chose....good luck! :)

- By Dogz Date 30.04.08 14:23 UTC
Well done to you Jolene. That is nice steady weight loss, the best way to do it.
I am now 20lbs lighter!!   :)
Delighted with it as have only another 3 to 5 to get to goal, which I think makes me gold.
I am very determined to keep it in check this time.

>I am very determined to keep it in check this time.

Me too :-) .........................mind you, I said that last time :-O but TBH, I'm finding WW a better diet than SW, so I'm hoping it will be easier to stick with after goal
- By Dogz Date 30.04.08 17:07 UTC

- By pavlova [gb] Date 30.04.08 17:35 UTC

- By Brainless [gb] Date 01.05.08 00:33 UTC
Well on Friday morning I was 14st 8lb, which is 30lbs lost since new year.  just another 4st and a few pounds to go, LOL.
- By Jolene [in] Date 01.05.08 06:18 UTC

>just another 4st and a few pounds to go

You CAN do it Barbara :-D ....keep at it!

Ideally, I'd like to shift another 2 1/2 stone ASAP!!! :-O
- By Brainless [gb] Date 01.05.08 08:12 UTC
Just had a sneaky early weigh this morning and I am 14st 5lb.

I'm hoping with a steadier slower weight loss this time and acceptance that I will always have to carefully monitor what I eat once I reach goal is the only way I will be able to keep it off this time.

I calculated that the weight I put on over the time I put it on equated to overeating by about 200 calories a day, that is about two slices of bread.  Your appetite and bodily needs only need be out of sync a bit for huge amounts of weight gain over time.

When thin people look at overweight/obese people they do assume that they all are really greedy.

I also wonder when the NHS or whoever last calculated what the calorie needs of average people are.

I am pretty sure from knowing how many points people are on for maintenance that it is nowhere near 200 calories a day more like 1700 for women at most.  I know that personally I would gain weight on 2000 calories, as I did when I religiously weighed and counted everything when I dieted in the 80's.

As a dog owner I do walk (pedometer confirms) at least 3 miles each day, more in good weather.

I remember seeing somewhere that the average adult these days gets less than half hour of real activity a week!
- By Lorripop [gb] Date 01.05.08 15:09 UTC
Jolene if you lost another 2 1/2 stone you would be a skeleton!! - well with a skin covering.

Lorri
- By Brainless [gb] Date 01.05.08 15:12 UTC
Must admit the WW pointing suits me best as I can eat what I want rather than have to have something I might not want or like.  As long as you get enough calcium and your five a day then you can choose to spend your points how you wish.
- By Jolene [in] Date 01.05.08 15:37 UTC
hehe.............no I won't Lorri ;-) .............I'll just look a bit more like you :-D ..............I just tried my jeans on and they still don't fit :-(
- By Dogz Date 01.05.08 16:20 UTC
Totally agree about the points system, if I record the points it helps to be able to have whatever you want, and that is just right for me. As I really am "a little of what you fancy does you good" type.

Karen
- By Lorripop [gb] Date 01.05.08 16:37 UTC
core plan for me - lost 3lbs in the first week! you get 21 points for the week to use on goody stuff.

think it just makes me cut out all the 'extras' in between meals
- By Jolene [in] Date 01.05.08 18:09 UTC
I'm following the points plan too ATM, I may swap to the core plan if I get stuck, just to change things around a bit :-)

Lorri, my BMI is currently 28 :-O ......to lose another 35lbs brings it down to a BMI of 22 (which is still nearly a stone heavier than I ever was before kiddies!) .........I've never been a skinny minnie :-D
- By pavlova [gb] Date 01.05.08 18:16 UTC
Maintained this week now I weigh eleven stone four I,d like to be about eleven stone but two years ago I was sixteen stone two so I,m not complaining
- By Jolene [in] Date 01.05.08 18:17 UTC
Not far to go then Pavlova :-)
- By pavlova [gb] Date 01.05.08 18:29 UTC

I,ve been down to ten stone ten last summer but feel happier about eleven stone just need to lose the few pounds I put on after losing Inga (I.m afraid I hit the chocolate for a few weeks).
- By Brainless [gb] Date 01.05.08 21:30 UTC
Must admit that was when things really went to pot for me after loosing the second of my girls just two and a half months after her Mum.  After the weight started going up I just caved in.
- By Jolene [in] Date 06.05.08 22:27 UTC

- By Brainless [gb] Date 08.05.08 06:47 UTC
Pst I think the Bank Holiday did for a few of us.

I weighed in as the same as last time, but that was two weeks ago, and I had lost last week when weighing at home, but then put it back on in before weighing in.

I'd love to be 12 stone already, will probably take me another 5 months before I am that again.
- By Angels2 Date 08.05.08 06:58 UTC
Well I was doing really well then we started house hunting.......I have put on nearly 9llbs!!!! :-o

Today will be the start for me again, I am stopping weight watchers as even the shame of the scales didn't help and I happily paid my money week after week and kept gaining! (rolleyes)

Now that house is nearly sorted life should be a bit calmer :-)
