This disease:    Granulomatous meningoencephalomyelitis (GME)
sadly took our 1 and a half year old springer pup away from us.  he had all the makings of a champion dog, already had his junior title.

I was just wondering if anyone has ever dealt with this disease???? plz help!

Thanks, springerman79

Hallo springerman. Yes, my girl is being treated for this awful condition at the moment. She'd been unwell with one thing or another for some time & then went blind suddenly. She was diagnosed after an MRI & spinal tap at a specialist veterinary centre. It came as an awful shock. the whole GME senario wasn't really explained to me that much & most of what i now know, i've learnt by researching myself. She was put on high dose prednisolone tapering over 8mths, & cytarabine, tapering over 16mths. What will happen when it ends we have to wait & see. At the moment she's quite bright & happy, if the time comes i think she's not, i will not let her suffer. Hard tho it would be, she means the world to me.
I was so sorry to read about your dog. I'd be real interested to hear what happened?
Regards

I did a search in the NCBI database and found a couple of full text articles available for free (you usually have to pay). Here's Disseminated granulomatous meningoencephalomyelitis in a dog, and the other. If you keep looking you may find more full text versions you can access for free.

I'm very sorry about the loss of your dog.

My springer "Blaze" was a year and a half. i came home on spring break from school and took him to the vet for my mom. usually he is a little jittery at the vet but nothing to bad, like he was that day. when we walked into the back he needed a little coaxing. we got into the back room and immediately he keeled over and had what they call a grand mal seizure. they kept him for observations and gave us a medicine that i cant remember the name of and no more seizures that day until i got him home he had one, this went on until one night he wounldnt stop having seizures and we took him to the vet in the middle of the night.  the vet made some phone calls, they ended up sedating him and keeping him for a week. when we got him home he was heavily medicated with steroids. no seizures for a week and a half until we started to minimize the dose. then we had more grand mal seizures. we increased the dose and he seemed to come back to normal for about 3 days. I was at school when he started having seizures on the hour, it was then my dad decided that it was time to put him down, no more suffering for blaze. i fear that in the last few weeks of his life, he didn;t even know who we were.  It was diagnosed with a spinal tap, he had leasions on his brain, but no focal leisions like your poor girl, i express my sympathy to you peanut! Blaze meant the world to me, i named him, the first dog i've ever named. Gwen our other springer, is getting used to not having him aorund, she is back to her normal self.
Best, joe
