never wrong to confirm she's having puppies.  But she has been wrong on numbers (been out by 2)

I would never rely on an ultrasound to do anything but confirm pregnancy and possibly show that there is just one pup, which might indicate problems at whelping..

Had two sultra sounds which confirmed bitches in whelp, both out numerically, but then again both vets (different practices) did say they would only confirm up to 4 pups after that classed as "multiple" birth (which 4 is too of course LOL).

I do personally know of another breeder who had her bitch scanned at the right time (experienced breeder and scanner) and was told no pups, the bitch went on to whelp four, healthy, good sized puppies so they CAN be wrong but I should think it's relatively rare to be so completely wrong.  Of course bitches can also go on to absorb some or all of the pups that show up in a scan.

regards, Teri

One of my girls litters, 2 years ago, she was bleeding quite heavily all through pregnancy, vet did first scan and said 5 pups, but to rescan, which he did 2 weeks later, he then told me only 3 pups :(  and said he wanted to scan her again in a couple of weeks.....I didn't bother going back, just kept a very close eye on my girl, who was kept on Synulox till the end of her pregnancy..........she went on to have 7 very strong and healthy pups!

Never had one say no she's not, then for her to go on and have a litter, although if you read back through this forum, there are plenty that have.

With my girl the vet wasn't sure by palpation so he scanned.  He said "at least 2" as that was all he could see - she went on to have 4 healthy pups!  From reading other posts on here it would seem that the sheep scanners are more accurate in terms of number of pups than the vets.
