Went to pick my dad up from work today (he works at the job centre) to find a Staffy running round in and out of the buliding with no tag, collar or anything. So first thing I did was grabbed the spare lead I always keep in the car, and luckily I had a few treats in my coat pocket. Finally managed to grab the little (skinny) guy and put the lead on him. Talk to the staff in the job centre and ask them to phone the dog warden - they basically ignored me, I even told them that its law to have your dog tagged in public, so the owner will be in trouble, but they didn't care...When I got there they were actually trying to shoo the dog away!!! Anyway, Next thing...this girl comes up, grabs the lead out of my hand and says she knows the owner of the staff :( She walked off with him before I even had a chance to do anything.
Now I feel so bad, I wish I'd done more. He was such a lovely friendly boyo :(
What would you of done in this situation?

Don't feel bad, there wasn't much more you could have done, you caught him and tried to get help from a dog warden. If you had insisted that the girl didn't take him from you, you may have been faced with being accused of trying to steal him.
You should be proud that you were the only 1 who could be bothered to do anything, and actually cared about the dogs safety & the law regarding loose dogs. Good on 'ya :)

well i dunno, she didn't say she owned the dog and she stole the lead!
don't think there is much else that could have been done at the time though without putting up a fight which i suppose you'd have been to surprised by the attitude to do.

The chances are the girl didn't know the owner - she might just have been thinking £££. We have had a lot of staffies knabbed in this area. But there's no way of knowing and you did your best.
In the circumstnaces you did everything you could and exactly what i would have done.
Ok so it didnt turn out the way you would have liked but you did all you could and prevented the dog from potentially being run over or something.
Dont beat yourself up, you did everything you could. Well done for stepping in when clearly others wouldnt
