I am thinking (yet again) of cooking my dog food.  Have bought the Pitcairn book which is most useful.  Holland and Barratt do pet vitamins (Pet vites) which contain complete vitamins and minerals for cats and dogs.  If I were to add this to my dog food (as well as oil) as an alternative to the vitamin mix would this be OK.  Also, if this is not ok, does anybody know where to get hold of good sources of calcium?

My Mals have raw egg with shells(though they usually manage to spit the shells out),chicken wings again Raw.They also have a couple of spoonfuls of natural probotic yogurt goats if possible, goats milk -as dogs are lactose intolerant so can not have cows milk. They also have a daily munch on raw bones. This should give them enough calcium as part of a balanced diet.

Sorry to hi-jack , but is cows milk really bad for dogs ( semi skimmed ) as my dogs love the dregs of the breakfast in the morning and even eat it off a spoon ( kids do get told not too , but occasionally find them doing it )

Cow's milk is only bad for the minority of dogs that are intolerant to it - just like peanuts are bad for people who have a nut allergy. Most dogs don't have a problem with it - if yours doesn't then don't worry.

Cats aren't meant to have cows milk but try telling that to my cats, they wait patiently each morning for the dregs of my cereal bowl.I guess its like every thing, most things are  usually o.k in moderation for dogs-except for chocolate and grapes.
