Any advice would be appreciated please....I have a maiden bitch who is "screaming" to be mated, she has been standing for 3 days now. My problem is that we have tried 3 times to get a mating. She stands beautifully for the dog but when he inserts his penis to a certain depth she screams out and goes into a blind panic. She has a history of being a wimp when it comes to pain, but I was not expecting this.
I have taken her to an experienced stud dog with a very experienced owner and she has not seen anything quite like it before as she is obviously very ready. We have also spoken to the vet who does not believe there is a physical obstruction although she is going at 11am this morning for a check up.
Can anyone advice please??? Would KY gel help? Anything I can do to calm her nerves? Would inserting a finger (gloved and KYgel help) Would it be better if I was not present? (the stud dog owner has suggested it)
I am quite upset about the whole thing. I do not want a doggy rape and her (and me) being upset further....

KY would probably help, and is she having her head firmly held? Many maiden bitches, although very ready for mating, get scared at the last minute and pull away, often very vocally. A firm grasp on either side of her collar will help to steady and reassure her.
Are you getting agitated, because your nerves will also be transmitting to her.
I think I might be which is why it has been suggested I am not there - but it will still take 2 people.....! We are on the way to the vets and chemist for KY gel.
One more go this afternoon as it is a 200 mile round trip !
Any body heard of any potions to calm the nerves please???? (dog and mine)
I have to say, my maiden bitch was mated at the end of last year and it was not what I expected. The stud dog and his owner are extremely experienced.
My bitch was ready (we premated) but she was terrified of what was happening. We had to muzzle her, (a precaution, as I was in front of her) and I held her collar, while the stud dog owner and a helper held her back legs, as she was twisting, which is obviously dangerous for both her and the dog. Once they were tied, she was fine and the muzzle was taken off. When she went back two days later she stood perfectly for the stud dog, and this season has been a total trollop, so it can't have traumatised her. However, if I hadn't trusted the stud dog owner, I would never have allowed it.

Two people managing a mating is perfectly usual; the risks of either getting hurt are too great to just let them get on with it. Of course 'getting on with it' is what happens 'in nature', but Mother Nature doesn't care if they get injured in the process - and owners do! With the giant breeds three are sometimes needed, especially during the tie - one to steady each end and one to stop either trying to sit down!

Mated my girl nearly 8 weeks ago. First day she was mated not a sound not a flinch and we were worried that she might be funny with her being partially sighted and doesn't like things near her back. (eye problem not hereditary, per paperwork from eye specialist!!).
Did her again the next day and she screamed the house down! It was at 11.30 at night and I couldn't do anything to console her! Wonder my mum's next door neighbour didn't complain because it went on for the full 20 minutes!

Maybe she needs to be checked by a vet to see if she has a stricture??

That seems to have been eliminated.
I think in this case the bitch simply needs to be held firmly until the tie is established.
One of mine was difficult to get mated, would get excited and try to thrust like a male, or whip round to mount him if not held by the collar, She hated the tie, and would buck and wriggle, but was up for some more next day/time.

We have just mated our maiden bitch and she was good as gold until they tied then she kept crying. When they broke apart she really cried out though seemed perfectly ok after. Is this normal?

Yes, as the tie can be uncomfortable.
Hello...just an update on th first posting.
The vet said she had ovulated after a blood test and he inspected her and there were no obstructions, kinks etc. There was no medical reason. We took her back to the dog. Stood him on a extra towel to raise his legs 1 cm and all was well. no screaming crying ....nothing. A 20 minute tie and she never moved.
She had completely gone nuts on the 2 other days (day 11 and 12) even though she was standing and willing.......she would not let him enter more than 2cms and clamped down on him !
I think the vets examination and the use of KY gel on his equipment made all the difference.
So fingers crossed now. We have only managed 1 mating on day 13 of her cycle. I hope it will be enough and not too late !

A bitch won't actually be fertile until two days after ovulation and the eggs will stay in fertiliseable condition for about another two days.
Some bitche s will play fast and loose until about this time, where others will stand and allow mating at or just before ovulation. Many studs won't get serious until the eggs are ready fro fertilisation too.
