I have a merle dog and had a thought.
Breeding two merles is a no no.

Does this rule also apply to breeds similar to merles but called dapple?

Like dapple daxies?

Not a terribly serious question but I was wondering still the same...

certainly true of dachshunds, dapples should never be mated together

Can I be totally thick, and ask why please.

Merle to merle mating causes problems in the puppies they can be born deaf and blind,no eyes at all has happened.

Actually a very serious question.  The consequences of breeding merle to merle, or dapple to dapple produces the "lethal gene" which can lead to pups being born blind, deaf, - a terrible consequence for ignorance if done by somone without any knowledge.

In single dose the Merle factor is not a problems and is very attractive.  The council of Europe would have the breeding of Merle coloured dogs banned.  Which is unnecessary as long as people breed properly.

Another reason why people shouldn't play at breeding, and learn about the subject and their breed before even contemplating such a serious step.
