Hi all,

I have a dog in foster care at the moment who was taken out of the pound on Saturday. Her nipples are showing, they are black and they are very small, it is just the teats that are showing and she is swollen around her vulva

She is very very thin and so I am unsure if she is on heat or may possibly be in the early stages of pregnancy.

Behaviour wise, she is a typical one year old lab x, bouncy and happy and friendly. She is not cleaning herself and I have seen no discharge when she pees
Neither have her foster carers

Any opinions?

Hi, its impossible to say, I'd take her to a vet and get their opinion.

I would think that she is coming into heat, some dogs teats do show more than others,she may not start to bleed until a week or so after swelling.
A vet could feel her to see if she can feel anything but usually not until the 4th week or so into pregnancy.
I have to agree with taking her to a vet to make sure she is o.kay.

Hi dollface, Excuse me for asking but are you a dog behaviourists or something similar? I see you are a new member, but having looked at your details, no information is given at all. What breeds do you keep, and what certificates do you hold? Just interested:)

Thanks for your replies, Molly went to the vet on Wednesday and was spayed. She was neither in heat or pregnant.
