My dogs have been eating other dogs poop. It has been quite recent and I am hoping that it is due to a change of diet which I am now changing back. However, if it is not then how can I stop this and is it dangerous. I think that people who do not clean up after their dogs are not very responsable and probably dont worm etc. I am also concerned about any meication that these dogs my be on. My OH has said tonight that niether dog should be let off lead until we cn find a solution as it is making me physically sick. Any ideas and advice would be appreciated. Thanks x

It's not pleasant is it :(  My pup does it and it turns my stomach. I hope that a diet change solves the problem for you.

If you are worried about them eating other dogs' poop when you're out walking, then it might be worth getting a couple of muzzles for them.  You will need the basket types, so they can open their mouths to pant, and you will need to train them to wear them, but it will put your mind at rest and they can then be let off the lead.  My parents lived in Spain some years ago, and after losing one of their lovely dogs from poison, they always walked theirs in muzzles.

My WSD does this and he is 4 1/2 and has never grown out of it.  Initially I did the telling off as soon as he did it but that just made him gobble it down quicker.  Now I always take a ball or toy with us and as soon as he looks like he is off to do it we distract him.  Seems to work as it has certainly reduced the amount of times he does it - although I doubt we will ever get him out of it completely. 

My 2 yr old schnauzer eats his if given the chance.  He has done it from puppyhood.  We had to watch him like a hawk and scoop it up before he could get to it.  Then I tried covering a pile with curry powder and leaving it there.  He didn't eat it, but it didn't stop him long term.  Now, luckily he doesn't poo in the garden at all, but saves it up for walks which suits me.

However, our new pup doesn't eat hers, and our dog doesn't even try to eat hers either - much to our relief!

I think some dogs are just like this, unfortunately.

my gsd always used to eat his own and other dogs poo. i solved it by booby trapping his poo in the garden with a small spinkle of chilli powder (make sure he has quick access to water) this was very effective and he makes a point of avoiding it now.
