I currently feed Burns and although I know there are mixed opinions on here about Burns I must admit my dogs thrive on it. However, it is becoming increasingly expensive and the content of grains seems to be rising and I agree meat should be the first ingredient for dog food. However, I don't want to exclude the grains completely because as I've said my dogs thrive on it and I know many of the better dog foods do contain brown rice quite high up on the ingredients list. I am also unable to feed the BARF diet as one of my dogs will not eat any raw meat.
So the plan is to make my own version of Burns. I plan to use lamb (this is the variety they are on now), brown rice, veg and oats and have also got some multivitamins. These are the ingredients listed on the back of the Burns, just my version will have meat as the first ingredient. I plan to make it into a sort of stew (in bulk) then freeze it and just defrost daily.
Does this sound like a suitable recipe? Is there anything missing that I should add?

Hi,you said your dog will not eat raw meat, have you tried warming it up first so he gets the aroma,or flash cooking it then slowly reduce the amounts of cooking time?I only asked because one of my Mals wouldn't eat raw meat but after doing this he will now eat it.

Cornish mals - yes I have tried both of those techniques. When its warm she still refuses to touch it and when I flash cook it she picks around the cooked outside and leaves the rest. I have even tried flash cooking tiny bit sized pieces which she takes then spits back out once shes bitten it and realised its not cooked. Some husky huh - she would never survive in the arctic!

Cava14una - thanks for the link I will check it out!

Very fickle dogs, they eat better than us.LOL.When my girl had her first season Demon ate nothing for days.Lost a lot of weight.Ended up going to Aldi and buying packs of cooked chicken breast, mixing it with fresh pasta sauce with pasta. He ate it and couldn't get enough. The Mal called it Lunch -  I called it the kids Dinner.!!!!
