I recently bought a new wood burning range cooker - initially I was so pleased with it, but for the past couple of weeks it has been smoking dreadfully.  Waiting for fitter to contact me about it but was wondering if anyone could help at all?  It is in an new extension with new double skinned type flue - it can't need sweeping after 3 months can it?

What type of wood are you burning on it? I would take a guess and say its the wood that could be the problem not the actual range.

The wood has to be really dry for any type of fire/burner/rayburn etc, as in about 12 mths under cover drying after cutting down. otherwise, damp wood will 'soot up' the chimney and leave a sticky residue. maybe a chimney sweep is called for, very often a good one (registered) is worth his weight in gold just for advice, and they can test your chimney make sure all is well.

I was told that the wood I had bought is well seasoned and is kept in the dry so that shouldn't be the problem but I do appear to have a sticky residue.  Phoned the chap who installed it and he's going away for the weekend and is very busy next week, so it'll probably be the week after before he comes and has a look which is very frustrating.  Think I'll look for a good chimney sweep in the meantime - I expect they're busy too!

Sweeps are usually busy, thats for sure lol! But if you check the net and get one that is a master sweep you won't go far wrong, they are not cheap but well worth the extra.
