Hi donna, what awful news, I really feel for you.
I guess it would depend on how big the dog was. Sometimes a cat can scratch a dogs nose and mouth which can bleed a lot. Of course a dog can also do damage to a cat. If your cat ran away then she didn't get a broken back or neck which is common in a dog attack. However cats have very thin skin which punctures easily leading to internal damage and bleeding.
She would have gone into shock and gone somewhere to hide so she would not respond to you calling her. You need to think like a cat when you search for her, get on your hands and knees to get right under hedges, sheds etc. and remember that cats can squeeze into impossibly small spaces. Use a torch and ask to search any likely areas on your neighbours property.
Sorry I can't be of more help, I really hope you find her ok
Loads of hugs, Mel

I am so sorry to hear this Donna. What a horrible experience for you and the cat.
I can't offer you much advice except keep looking and listening - if hurt and you are near her she may let out a little noise.
Look everywhere you can think and put up posters.
Cats are very resiliant and she may just be recovering somewhere quiet.
Really sorry

I do hope she is soon home - what a worry :(
Maybe some kind person will find her and take her to a vet.....you could try phoning local vets and ask them to be on the lookout. I am so sorry..you must be beside yourself. PS what area are you in?

oh donna i'm so sorry, i hope you find her ok {{{hug}}}

Oh so sorry to hear of this, I hope your cat is ok. How sad!!!!
Prayers for you!!!
Cant offer much more than that, but I hope your cat comes back ok.

Have you found your cat yet Donna?
Have heart. Our cat made it home in a dreadful state and hardly alive, so believe me when I say, if he can without doubt he will.

My cat smartie disappeared for days - it turned out he'd been run over and must have gone away to lick his wounds. He did stumble back, very shakily, and was very badly injured. I remember putting a post on here about it, I was absolutely convinced I was going to lose him because of his awful injuries. But I didn't lose him, it took a while but he made a full recovery, I was so shocked. Guess what I'm trying to say is, cats are a lot tougher than you think, I'm sure you're cat will return. But I do hope you find her and that she's o.k, I know how worrying it is.

I'm really sorry to be the bearer of bad news but cats do often run away to die. My Grandads cat was very ill. Couldnt find it for days. Eventually found it under a bush. Vet said cats crawl away to die unlike dogs who like their home comforts. Really sorry. Look everwhere you can. As someone said it could be a case of bleeding badly from a not so bad injury and is just a bit scared to come home.
You're in my thoughts/

Hi Donna,
So sorry to hear of this. This is my worse nightmare I worry about with my cats.
I do hope you find her. Is she chipped? I would ring around all your local vets incase she's been found and taken in, also put posters up and I hate to say it, but you could ring your local council (not sure what department now) to see if any dead cats have been picked up. I did all of these when one of mine went missing. Luckily I had a phone call three weeks after he went missing to say he had been seen in the caller's garden, and two days after that she managed to catch him. He was fine except for a bit thin and dirty. The lady who found him had seen a poster I had put up in our local post office.
Wishing you good luck and best wishes on finding her xxxx
Hi Donna,
So sorry to hear about your cat, I hope
she comes home soon, or you find her and she's
not as badly hurt as you're imagining she's been.

Ive seen her!!
She was in a neighbours garden, but when i tried to go up to her very quietly and spoke to her very softly she just went the other way...
I didnt want to chase her... But i then came back to get o.h and he saw her jump off the fence
so hopefully she's not too injured, just shocked. Do you think?
I just hope she isnt put off by my own dogs
Ive put some food out.
And i sleep on the sofa and listen for her
I love her immensley (sp?) and i would hate to lose her... (she once went awol for about 3 years! and only came back at xmas)
Thank you all for your lovely kind thoughts, plus the honest ones..
I'll let you know
Again thank you, im truly grateful to you all

Well done!! You've seen her and that's great! here's hopeing she doesn't clear off again in discust.
That's great :)
Well she can't be too badly injured if she's jumping
over fences :) Hopefully she'll just need a few hours quiet
time and she'll come home when she's ready ..
I'm so pleased for you, try and relax a little now

so glad you saw her! and if she's jumping fences she can;t have been damaged to badly, good news then.
if she went awol before maybe she's just off on another jaunt... our old cat used to do that a lot. weathers getting warmer now so certainly possible

Wow that's really good news, cats are sensitive creatures so she probably just wants some time out :)

oh wow, how great that you have seen her!!!!
She mustnt be too hurt to be jumping over fences, I would think. Lets hope next time you see her, she wont be so nervous and instead of walking away from you, walk towards you. She may just need some time.
But wow, so glad to hear that you have seen her!!! Great news

Its amazing what adrenalin in an animal can make it do though. When my cat was run over, she dragged herself home when she heard me calling on her even though her internal organs had been pushed up through her diaphram and she was in acute pain.
Your cat is probably in a state of shock & very wary at the moment, all you can do is call her name & reassure her you are there. If within the next couple of days she is still seen but won't come home, ask Cats Protection if they will lend you a humane trap, then stick her favourite food in there, eventually hunger will get the better of her.

That's great news, i hope your cat comes home soon :)

Great news, hope you manage to lure her back soon.

Do you know where she was when she was missing before, and if so do you think she may have gone back there feeling in her present mind it to be safer?

thats great news at least you know shes still near your house.she will come eventually dont worry.
when my cat was bitten by a neighbors dog she went missing for weeks then eventualy came back to the garden and stayed there for a few days running away when i went near her but she came back and let me check her wounds, shes now totaly back to normal.
cats are tough and the blood was proberbly from your cats claws getting at the dog. dont worry and just be there for her when she needs you
She is maybe too afraid to come home at the moment, incase she meets up with the other dog again, so glad that you have seen her, cats tend to have a delayed reaction to pain and their wounds so that is wonderful news that you have spotted her so much later, sounds good that she jumped the fence, and you saw no obvious signs of her being hurt, extremely promising. :-) And of course that she did not go too far from home. If she has always been ok with your dogs, don't worry she will still come home, hunger will get the better of her. ;-)
Looks as though you will have to wait for her to lick her wounds and come home on her own. Cats always will have a mind of their own and they can be pretty stubborn.
I hope with everyone else to hear tomorrow that she is home safe and well. :-)

Sorry, i asked for all your input then went awol myself! (Work:( )
I saw her the following day coaxed her with food, managed to get close enough to pick her up but she freaked.. i got scratched, i let her go. She was about 6ft from me as if to be choking/gasping
Ive not seen her since :(
Ive asked everyone... no sign
But i wont give up hope
:(

Oh dear sounds as though she may well have internal injures.
Do you have a friend anywhere who has a fishing net? I would try to coax her again and net her, then pop her in a cat crate straight down to the vets.
Darn cats, why don't they let us help them, they are so stubborn.
Try your best to catch her now, I don't like the sound of the choking/gasping at all.

really sorry donna. massive {{{hugs}}}
Keep your chin up, it's possible he may still come back. Have you done the usual-been out looking, put posters up? It may be worth re jogging people memorys and asking in the neighbourhood if theres been any recent spottings.

Oh, poor you, I do hope that time and patients will win in the end. You are doing all you can and it is really a matter of waiting till the cat has the confidence to come home. She is staying with in the area so keep puting food out and one day she will be waiting for you I believe and hope.

Donna,
As I said in a previous post, ask the Cats Protection for a loan of a humane trap & then load it with her favourite food. She's probably on the prowl more when it's dark & there's less humans/dogs on the go. Hunger will make her come out.

Ahh so pleased that she's still with us. Fingers crossed that she'll come home soon!

Excellant idea.

Hope you get her soon. Keeping everything crossed for you.
Sarah.

Hi Donna,
Just read this tread. First well done for stopping the fight.
If she has survived this long I'm sure and hope that she will be fine. :-)
I really really hope you catch her soon and can tell us she is Ok . :-)

tried the dog warden or RSPCA(off to wash my mouth out after having written that name)
You could put out a travelling box with a blanket & food for her
My friend's cat was missing for a week & dragged himself home with a gin trap still attached to his leg, he lost the leg, but recovered & lived a long life, Cats can be the ultimate survivors

I just thought i'd give you an update... I hadnt seen ed for ages... although my daughter said she had spotted her.
Yesterday my husband was out cleaning the garden, when he shouted me... she was on the grass outside my garden. I took some food out to her and she ate it... allowing me to get close. Close enough to grab her... so now she's in the house... BUT now i feel cruel. Do i keep her in or allow her to do what she wants?
Im also thinking her booster is due soon.. if she goes awol again i might not get her back...
Im lost as what to do for the best
Donna x
(and my boysxx)

I would keep her in for a while, after all she had a really awful experience didn't she. Worth taking her to the vet for a check after 4 months !
Bet you are relieved
