Hi everyone, be patient with me as I am new to this.
I,m looking for a bit of advice really, my 2.1/2yr old cavi girl has been limping on and off for about 6wks now. It started suddenly for no reason, and its only about once a week. It is mainly after resting. Today she was outside with my husband in the garden when she suddenly started to limp again for no reason, it was quite bad this time and made her lie down. She doesn't appear to be in any pain and she will let us touch her leg, its one of her front ones. We are going to take her to the vets in the morning without fail, but I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

i had this problem with my dog she started limping one day i kept my eye on her and whilst at the vets for her (cant remember why) i mentioned it to them they had a look but found nothing usual with her and told us to keep a eye on it, i found it was worse after her morning run so i deceided to stop the runs and keep to walks, the limping did tend to stop but started again when we resumed her runs after a few weeks we noticed it just went away by itself, i give her daily primrose oil capsules and joint care tablets and touch wood everythink is great now, let us know how you get on, good luck

Hi,
I haven't had these problems with my dogs but it could be a luxating patella.......I would pop her down to the vets for a good check over. Good luck, I hope she's ok.

If it is LP, remember that if nothing is found at the vets that it is possible that it is just not bad enough to be forced out easily.

luxating patella....... unlikely.
Thanks for the replys, she seemed to improve a bit this morning after resting her yesturday, its the same old story she romped around the garden for an hour first thing and hence the limp went bad again. I have got an appointment at 5.10pm today, I will let you know how she gets on.

Hi everyone
Just thought I would let you all know that I took Elle to the vets yesturday and he couldn't find anything wrong with her leg. He gave her an anti-inflamitory injection and told me to restrict walking to 1/2 hour twice a day for about 10 days to see how she goes.
This morning she seems so much better, not even limping, it's all a mystery.

It's probably a luxating patella, not all vets can pick this up, especially if it is a low grade one. An orthopeadic vet would manipulate the knee to see whether or not it pops out, and it can easily be popped back in again. LP's are graded and restricting walks, preventing her from using the stairs and avoid jumping on and off furniture should help her.
Sorry, just noticed it is one of her front legs so it is unlikely to be Luxating patella.
