Right here's one to test the expertise of all you champdoggers!

i am looking on ebay for new sofas and chairs.  Does anyone know how to work out from the sofa dimensions what size of door they will fit through!  As I'm looking to buy second hand I can't send them back if they dont fit and the front windows are even narrower than the doors!

LOL I cant help you but made me chuckle as my boyfriend is a removal man and he is always moaning people dont size up things before buying them and expect them to get them out of the doors when they move.
Sorry but just reminded me! You will be popular with removal men if you have measured up lol

Thats the thing.  As I'm looking buy off of ebay I've got to measure the car to see if they'll fit (should do 7 seater people carrier!) and then get them in the house!  I dont want to find I cant get them in and end up out of pocket with the sofa sat outside!!

:) why not buy the same size as you already have? That one got in didn't it?

Or, we can all measure ours and our doorway and let you know.....

I'll go and measure mine now :)

Right, here goes...
Sizes are approx (very close LOL )   H = 34"  L = 81"  W = 43"  DOORWAY = 30"
Sofa is quite a full cushioned one, we had to up end it to get it in but not too difficult

Hope that is some help :)

Thanks everyone!  I might yet be asking you all to measure your sofas and doorways!

think I should be OK as the one I'm looking at is a square design  (chesterfield) and I have just measured the door and its slightly bigger than the height!  I'm just waiting to hear back from the seller on ebay!

I've now had three friends who couldn't fit their sofas through the doors. One had to take the lounge window out, One sent it back to John  Peters but didn't get a full refund and one lived in a new three storey property and had to have it pulled up to the second floor on a pulley. I asked each of them if they measured it and they said they never thought to.

They seem to make sofas much bigger these days so Be careful.

Lol my inlaws gave us their old sofa hideabed and is that a heavy **** had our friend help us and got it home and almost didn't get it threw the door- never had to take the door off but we did have to take the legs off the couch... Hubby says when we move the couch will be staying here lol

We are in need of new furniture desperately I have garbage bags on the cushions (one of our couches) dogs put holes in it and sheets on top of that- the other ones are fine- we finally figured out how to keep the dogs off the couch with runners prickly/bumpy side up and we got alarms on the couches now lol

you could ask the seller to measure their own doors. If your doors are no smaller than their doors, the you know it will fit. However, that only works if you are bringing the sofa in straight. If you have a corner, or pillar, that strategy wont work

I can't help you with that one, but it does remind me of the last furniture that I bought.  I have a really tiny front room (has it's benefits though, as when I'm sat down in the evenings, all the gang lie down, and it's wall to wall dog.)  At least you can't see if I've vacuumed or not!

Well, I knew that I didn't have room for a 3 seater.  So measured up with hopes of finding 2 2seaters that would fit.  I think I measured every 2 seater in the store, and there was only one design that was small enough.  It was more modern than I'd been used to - having a side button to press, and a lovely leg rest shot out.  Yeah!  Right! Like I have time for leg rests!  Anyway, I hadn't realised just how heavy this type is, with the internal mechanism and all.  When the delivery arrived, the 2 men carried in 4 seperate items (because of weight), and then proceeded to put them together.  I really hadn't appreciated how much hard work it would be, and they were great, making sure that everything was just so.  It took them ages.  Now,,,, bear in mind I have a wicked sense of humour.

When they had finished, and stood there panting and out of breath, you should have seen their faces when I said "Yes the terracotta is lovely - but I ordered the blue!"
