My bitch is in labour at the moment, has had 3 so far. One of the little boys can't seem to crawl like the others he is dragging his whole back end. Have held him and his back legs and tail not moving at all. He took longer to come than the others, she was pushing for about 25 min. Has anyone else experienced this or know what may be going on. Thanks

if i was you i would contact your vet, it does cost because it will be an emergency but if it was me i would, hope everything goes ok, sami x
how is pup now? is there any improvement but until you know just what the problem is make sure the pup latches on for milk as it wont be able to push itself towards mum and tomorrow make sure bitch cleans the pups bits to stimulate it to go to the toilet I hope everything goes ok

Thanks, rang vet she pretty much advised like you. Make sure warm and feeding. Mum not bothering with it as much as other 2, but is still trying with him. Vet said she could give him anti inflammatry injection, but would wait till tom and see he improves with time.

she will treat his as the wrecklin, as we call it, its the weakest dog so definately make sure you hold him on for feed, i beleive its gonna be a long night for you, keep a close eye on him, i wish i could help you, i feel sad xx

good luck with him

Thanks for your advice, pup seems to be moving it's legs a bit now, but have had more dramas. Last pup was born at 7.30 last night, kept a close eye all night all seemed well, feeding and sleeping mostly. At lunchtime today mum went out to toilet and delivered a 4th pup in the garden, some 16 hours after 3rd pup !!! Had them all to vets, she has had a scan and xray, no more in there, last one born is very weak and mum seems to be rejecting it. Trying to hand feed with welpie but she can't suckle v well so trying to get her latched on to mum so fingers crossed she gets stronger.
i had one that was born 12hrs after we thought mum was done - little puppy was weak and low on sugar, we gave a substitute milk once and she picked up and suckled from mum no problems. my sister has her and now age 5 and no problems.
when you took bitch to check there was no more did he check last pup born? have you checked inside its mouth for palate?
oh you are havin a hard time. hope everything works out ok ,. how are the puppies doing now ?

Fed her every 2 hours thru night, doesn't have cleft pallate luckily. She is still very weak but mum taking a bit of interest now she's a bit stronger and more vocal, is attempting to feed her and clean so I think we are just going to try and top her up but hope she get's the majority off mum. She is the cutest little thing, the vet said no point checking her out as if anything wrong it's probably nothing visible, just to keep doing what we are doing, but not to get too attatched !!! Easier said than done, I have called her Frankie after Frank Bruno as she seems a real fighter. The other 3 are great, plump and content.

Just to keep you posted, little Frankie still fighting. Mostly feeding off mum, but taking 6 ml 3 -4 times a day off us. She is still small, but put an oz on yesterday so fingers crossed we have turned a corner. Mum now a bit overprotective and doesn't like us touching her, when she goes out to the toilet she tries to take Frankie with her !!Thanks for all your advice.

Well done, I'm glad everything is turning out so well :)
Give yourself a big pat on the back because without your determination, caring, time and hard efforts it could be a different story alltogether.
Give mum and the pups a big 'squish' from me

Thanks, bad news Frankie became weak yesterday had a bit of an upset tummy. Hubby fed her at 2 am , had alarm set for 4 am, I thought hubby had got up and vice versa, I then got up at 6 am and she had died. Completely devastated, keep thinking if we had got up at 4 would she stilll be here. We had cut her feeds to 4 hourly as mum was feeding her and didn't want to stop her feeding off mum, but as she was weak last night we went back to 2 hourly. Worried we may have overfed her at times as she was taking far more than says on tub of welpi. She was taking between 5 and 15 ml. Never thought it would be so hard losing a pup, definately not cut out for breeding. Thanks agian for all your words of encouragement. paula

So sorry to hear about your little puppy some are just not meant to be.
this is one reason why I sleep with mine as you never know what might happen, they are 5 wks and I still prefer to sleep on the spare bed in the whelp room plus I find it easier to clean up after they toilet than come down to it in the morning.
Thinking of you
Roni
