My friend has a maiden schcnauzer bitch who is about 20 months old she tried to mate her on her last season, she bled for the 1st 2 days then nothing ,her back end hardly swelt up at all,her stud dog tried to mount her but he just jumped back off took her for a pre mate test the vet said she was ready now but again the stud dog  did little thrust but never entered vet did coment she was really tight  little bitch,my friend tried from day 1 to day 21 and nothing ,
,
She was in season again there 1st few days she bled then then bleeding stopped (checked bedding it was clean)she never swelt up tight again inside, the stud gave a few licks then lost interest she tried every day till day 21  ,again he was not interested, she is a week out of season and the stud dog has started to mount her this is the keenest he has been,

A neighbour told her that cause she came in a month early due to her bulldog being in season it might not be a true season and she could come back in again is this correct?

I and my friend have used this stud dog several times and he is bang on target its only with this little bitch he seems to have problems with..

Any helpful advice would be great,.mnay thanks in advance

Personally 20  months still abit young for my liking. I would consider after the age of 2 when more mature. Sad to say on that point some bitch don't have a full blowen season. Would be best getting hormone tests done, at the vets to get the timing right or try the new Mate tel.

To mate a bitch at 15 months is a bit early? was this her first or second season as my parents had a bitch once who had 'split seasons' for her first couple, think its caused by low hormone levels. They took it to mean that my bitch was too immature physically to carry a litter without problems and certainly at less than two years of age too immature mentally. She later went on to produce normally at 2.5 years.(S/M breed) I think your friend would be advised to buy the book of the bitch and research further.

> is it true about what her friend says about coming in early they can have another season the next month??

That would be a split season, not enough hormones to bring the bitch in season fully and then they come in again a few weeks later.

The bitch even now is on the young side to be bred from, and with funny seasons she may well not be a good candidate for breeding as such traits are often passed on to the offspring and she will end up with a line of poor breeding bitches.

Of course once the bitch is fully mature and her hormones stabilise she may be perfectly fertile.

Also is the dog experienced stud dog, many males never really get the hang of mating, and if they live with a bitch they may be even less inclined to mate her as the bitch is usually dominant in a mixed sex household, and he may lack the confidence to go all the way.

As for physically being small, I have had a bitch mated and have 3 litters without problems, and looking at her you would hardly think she was in season at all, as she never swelled much..

I know some breeders have invested the premate machine that  is inserted into the bitch to tell if the bitch is ready or not save any  extra stress to the bitch..

took her to vets they said its a split season , as the neighbours bulldogs are in season this has brought her in early,he says she should come back in next month on time..
