Hi
Just wondering if I should be worried. Barney managed to eat a small bar or soap the other day (Imperial Leather!) - was expecting him to be sick, but no signs but he does seem to be weeing more often and longer than usual - would this be his kidneys working hard to get rid of the soap? He's always trying to lick the soap when he gets the chance but first time he's actually got hold of it - just wondering if it will do him any harm.
Thanks for your comments.

As it was the other day, and he stole it, he will probably be fine. My experience is that if they nick it, everything will be fine, but if you give it, dire consequences will ensue!;)
However, just to be on the safe side, I would look at the contents on the wrapper and phone the vet for advice.
One thing is certain though, he will be VERY clean inside;)
I beleive most soaps contain a lot of animal fat!

Soap is v. dangerous. My Weimaraner helped herself to a bar about 6 years ago - I got home to find her in a terrible state she was covered in vomit as was the kitchen and she was on the verge if collapse. I managed to get her to the vet and he immediately put her on a drip, 4 injections and three hours later he sent us home with the statement "its up to her now", if she is still with us in the morning bring her back. I felt she would get better nursing at home with me then left in a cage. She had burned her throat and stomach. I started spoon feeding her cold chicken soup, 1. to soak up the soap and 2. to cool her throat. I popped her in a sleeping bag and slept with her on the floor all night with frequent trips to the garden as she passed pools of bloody liquid. She was still alive the next morning and we returned for more injections and a another drip to rehydrate her. The vet said I very nearly lost her. Soap contains amongst other things "Bleach" and her throat was covered in blisters and was closing due to the swelling - I could only imagine the state of her stomach. She had a bad throat for nearly a month and she eventually made a full recovery. My vet said her size and condition was probably what saved her. Needless to say - I will only have liquid soap in the house now!!!

two of my dogs lick the soap if they possibly can sneak into the bathroom usually in order to steal underwear. I obviously stop them if I catch them, but I didn't realise how dangerous it was until I read one of your replies. my puppy has actually stolen it once, but licked it and didn't get to eat any because I caught him, luckily. I think I will buy liquid in future too. maybe it also depends on what soap you use as to how dangerous it could be. thinking about it I only use pure vegetable soap so maybe thats not as bad.
