Just a quick enquiry, What extra's do you give your bitches while in whelp? Or what do you add in to the diet? I have such a fussy girly, she's turning her nose up at everything I have offered over the last couple of days, other than chicken, scrambled eggs, tripe and sausages. She is booked in tomorrow to be scanned.
Any Ideas very welcome.
Thanks in advance

How about something fishy, tuna, sardines?

My girl lived off basically everything you said, tripe, sausages, chicken, chicken wings whilest pregnant, she wouldn't touch eggs or anything fishy. During the early weeks and before mating she ate Royal Canin HT42d
I find that my girl very often goes off the normal dry complete puppy food, so from week 5 I generally will soak the food or use rice and add scrambled egg, chicken, fish or minced beef, that way she happily gulps the whole lot down. Chicken wings are also a favourite.
Anything that will basically just slide down her throat, I also give her goats milk. Very often bitches will go off their normal feed and need something with texture, protein and easy to eat. Their body has a calling for the good stuff. :-D
Just do your best to add either rice or soaked puppy complete to the things that she desires.
Thanks for all your replies.
My shopping list for her:
Minced Beef
Goats Milk
Tuna
Chicken
Rice
Sausages
Eggs
Tripe
Tinned Meat

Am I right in thinking minced beef must be frozen, then thawed before eating?

If mine are being fussy and I feel that I just have to get something inside them, I give full cream rice pudding, and add diluted evaporated milk. Make it nice and sloshy. Slides down easily. I often give this just after whelping if they don't seem to be drinking enough.

I buy minced steak, but always freeze it then defrost before feeding it, just to kill off any bugs that might be lurking.

I had real problems with one of my bitches when she had her last litter. She just wouldn't eat anything especially puppy food. I got to the point that I gave her whatever she wanted. Don't know how many types of food which I changed. Was beginning to think that she would deliver very weak puppies and be ultra slim herself after giving birth. She did however go on to deliver 5 healthy fat puppies and didn't loose too much herself. The problems with what she would and wouldn't eat didn't stop there though. For another two weeks after giving birth she still wouldn't eat everything which I put down to her. So did the same again. LEt her eat anything which I could get into her.
