My friends dog had an operation.  She brought the dog home, and the dog had a bit of bleeding from the incision, but to be expected.  Well, the vet said she couldnt wash the area until the stitches came out.  Well, she went to take the stitches out, and the blood made it almost impossible, and she ended up ripping a bit of the healed skin.

My question (from my friend) is this:

What can you put on a dog, to minimize the chance of infection, keep the area clean, and promote better healing.  She doesnt want a huge scar there, as it would be very noticable in where the area is. 

The area, is not a high groom area, and the dog is unable to lick it. 

The vet is a real dip, and doesnt want to do much of anything without his money.  She called, and they want her to come in, so she can be told what creams or such to use.  So far there is no sign of infection, so its a bit ridiculous to have the pup in. 

Looking for some natural ways to promote healing.  And reducing scars.  Dont want no white hairs growing in there (black and tan dog)

Tell your friend to ask for some Intrasite  gel.  It works wonders on any form of open wound/sore and also helps reduce any itchiness from the regrowth.  I've used it on my boys amputatation site and there is hardly any scar at all.   My friend who is a vet nurse swears by the stuff

No disrespect intended to your friend...but were the stiches actually due to be taken out yet? And shouldn't he vet checked again before allowing her to do it herself.

The vet said the stitches were to come out at 7 days, so she took the stitches out on the end of the 7th day. 

She didnt take the dog back to the vets who did the operation due to long distance.  It is a 12 hour day for her to go back to the vets that did it.

She has taken stitches out before, just these ones got caught.  Now she is a little unsure of what to do.
