I have a seven month old bitch puppy who has developed the 'habit' of peeing up the wall, she stands with her paws on the wall and pees? She deos it all the time now (at home and when out) and I've never seen anything like it! She has always been a 'over' confident pup but could there be a medical reason for this?

Used to have a Pomeranian who did this and there was nothing wrong with her.  Used to have another who did a headstand for a poo!

That sounds like marking behaviour - bitches will sometimes mark as well as dogs. :)

Well, I never! :-D  Never in my life have I seen that, perhaps in a previous life your Pom's were circus people. :-D

I've known bitches that did that, but have no idea why. The first time I saw it I was doubled up laughing ;-) I couldn't believe my eyes :-D

Just realised she is the one in my avatar, no she isn't about to pee there but she seems to spend an awful lot of her time on 2 legs (perhaps she evolving I've always said they are almost human LOL) I think on reflection it is prob marking behaviour as suggested her mum had her 1st seeson around 9 months so perhaps she will follow suit.

My Kira,an Alaskan Malamute started lifting her leg to pee at about 7 months,very funny but happens in dominant females.Given the chance she would do this every few yards but I distract her from marking constantly on walks as i do with my lad.He also poops up hill.He finds a hedge slides up and does his bussiness.Preferabally with a prickly gorse bush as the cherry on top.A real pain for me when I have to use my doggy poo bags.

My young Tibetan Spaniel lifts her leg slighty when peeing. But in her case it is to stop any pee going over her paws, I think.
Anyway it looks very cute and keeps her clean.!

at a ringcraft I used to go to many moons ago there was a pug "family" and all the bitches did the same - looked very strange but comical too LOL.

I'd certainly not permit it at home though - not so cute indoors really, where a pee is a pee is a pee!  I wouldn't be concerned about it being a medical issue but do believe it is partly behavioural - scent marking and basically trying to get the scent higher up because of the physical size of the dog (assuming here yours is a toy breed of course and not an IW or something )  Pay close attention to it from a house training POV and a firm "ah, ah" if she looks likely to do it and then whip her outside ASAP.  Lots of praise when she does it outside but perhaps fall short of convulsive laughter at her antics as it will probably encourage her LOL.

It may also be she is coming into season so "marking" more too .....

Yep I would say ti is marking behaviour and to be dealt with the same as with a young male that starts to inappropriately make in the house or on peoples legs etc.

I have two bitches that cock their legs, both started it after they had their first litters, and they are grandmother and granddaughter, and granddaughter has recently progressed to number two spot in the canine family.  Her Mum isn't interested in Politics, only in doing her own thing, like her own grandmother. 

It seems that I have every other generation bitches who like to make a clear statement of their hierarchy and every other that don't give a hoot.  My youngest one looks like she won't be a wannabee.

Hi, Sorry when I said 'at home' I meant in the garden. She is fully housetrained and has been from 4 months. No peeing in the house allowed here LOL She stands against the garden wall or fence to pee. Her mum has now taken a back seat and now lets her play with the others now, in fact this behaviour started soon after Lily(mum) stopped protecting her, so sounds more like marking behaviour now.
