Hi all,

A mouse has managed to get in to my car (we live out in the sticks) yesterday the car wouldn't start so after more investigation we found that the mouse has eaten a lot of wires in the dashboard, and it is going to cost a lot to get fixed, my question is as we are fullt comp with our insurance do you think we are covered or is that asking too much?

I would ring the insurance company and find out what they say, at least you will no!!!

I know it's mean but it immediately sprang to mind......................the insurance company might just say "Tough Chedder" !

I have had to ring the insurance company twice in a week to make a claim, 1 being leak in roof and the other that some one broke into my garage, set a fire to keep warm. Then we had all the wind a rain and half the roof came off as the nice person who broke into there for shelter set a fire to keep warm.

Noooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!  I'd never pluck up the courage to get in the car again if I thought a mouse might be in there!!!! :-O

Nor me i hate things, we had a nest in our garden a yr ago its taken me this long to get back out there, i would need to claim on the insurance for therpy not to fix the car

You probably are covered, it is quite a common problem believe it or not, problem is sometimes the excess costs more than the work, have you popped into a garage for a quote or perhaps if you are AA or RAC covered they can just cut and rejoin the wiring for you. :-)

well a friend had a quick look and said that quite a bit of damage has been caused, he said we are lucky that the car hasn't caught on fire at first we thought we had a dodgy battery so we went to halfords and brought one for £100  but when that didn't work thats when oh noticed the damage looks like hes had a right feast on the wires.
Looks like he's been in the car a while now weve had a closer look we have heated seats in the front and it seem he's burrowed in the passenger one to keep warm :-D
it's surprising how much damage something so little can do
anyway im not worried about mice, now a spider and you wouldn't see me for dust

well an update we are covered thankgod, i think the lady i spoke to thought i was mad she said i will have to ask someone as ive never come a cross this before, then when asking me the normal questions she said have you got the police involved :-D

Good at least you're covered and you can get your car repaired.

You should probably just check that you wouldn't be better off just
taking it on the chin and paying for it yourself, if your excess is going to
work out more expensive though, plus you have the increase which will
no doubt be added to your premium for next year ...

lol, arresting the mouse for damage to private property lol? mice are really cute but an absolute nightmare!

thanks all we have protected no claims so we don't have to worry about any increases, the lady at the insurance company has said that if the cost is less than the excess then we just pay the cost and we get a hire car all the time the car is in the garage which i need to get the kids to school so hopefully exerything will be fine.

I had a hamster loose in my car overnight last year caused £400 of damage! Didn't think to contact the insurance at the time but handy to know for next time!! (never) The guy at the garage asked me how my dog (have dog guard) managed to chew thru the rear seatbelts and the rear light cable under the backseat I was too enbarassed to say it was a hamster so I blamed the dog!
