I dont know if its just me (probably is lol!) but looking at my gorgeous fur baby (4 month old staff) her ears look far too big for her head! Sometimes they even look pricked even though her mum and dad had 'normal staff ears',could it be a possibilty that she has pricked ears? Im not bothered either way just curious.I was just wondering if anyone had thought the same or dog had been the same as mine or am I the only mad hatter on here that spends far too much time looking at their dog!xxxxx

lots of pups look like they have ears far too big for their head, but dont worry when it gets older they will look normal

LOL I was the other way round, when my first litter of Cav pups was born last year I couldn't imagine how the ear leathers would ever grow to a proper long length, they were so short at birth!! But by the time they were 6 weeks old or so the leathers were much the same length proportionately to the head as the adult dogs, phew! :-D

Not just the ears.  Our Lab puppy is five months old and seems to grow irregularly.  One morning we got up and both of us were sure his hind legs had grown an inch overnight, but not his front legs.  :)  Different bits of him seem to spurt at different times.  I hope they all even out.

Up at the rear is a pretty usual stage with pups.

This is another reason why it is best not to castrate a dog until it as finished growing.  all the bones don't finish growing and the growth plates close until around 14 months of age in an average size dog.

She looks really out of proportion its quite funny bless her.Do you only know whether a staff is gonna have pricked ears when its fully grown or can you tell sooner? Just seems like quite a rare feature.xxx

I love the way  Bassett Hound pups grow, especially the stage when they have huge feet and ears which trail on the floor!  :)

My oldest American Cocker had prick ears as a pup, nothing to worry about at birth  - lots of the breed have sticky up ears at birth, and they drop in 2 or 3 days, however Junior still had them at almost 3 weeks old, he looked beyond comical!  Thankfully they flopped over, and stayed put - otherwise he might have gone through life looking like her was going to take off at any moment.
bye
Gwen

Sometimes their ears do all manner of crazy things when teething -
Have you tried just massaging the ear at the creaseline at all?

No I havent thought of that I will give it a try though if I can get her to stay still for 5 mins lol! I have only seen a couple of staffs with pricked ears and they were adults so I have no idea what they looked like as puppies, have you seen any seeing as though you breed and rescue? (something which I would love to do!)xxx

My dogs now one and at lots of different stages he has looked "out of proportion"- his ears too short, his legs too long, his body too long, then his ears looked too long. It was all part of his growing and now he looks perfectly even - but i am biased :-)

the bullies all do this, looks awful for a couple of weeks!

also, teh head is the last bit to mature so their body is adult sized and their (normally large) heads are tiny, looks so weird! thankfully my 18 month old os just coming out of this stage- head growing nicely :)

LOL....bit like husky pups .. my girl went though a stage where i thought her head would never catch up with the rate her ears were growing...Hers were mean't to stand up but it was like she had her adult ears on a puppy head for a good while ...And my little cav seemed to have no ears (compared to every other cav i saw) but finally they are here ...

LOL Staffords do grow through an ugly duckling stage as I call it, where their bully head is developing and sometimes their ears excels their head! can look very funny sometimes!!!
Nothing to worry about tho as long as the parents are KC and heath tested etc and you know they are from good lines :)

Hello again thought I would give you a quick update on Raven's ears lol! Well one of them has dropped and looks "normal" but the other one is still pricked and it dont look like its gonna drop any time soon so it seems like I will have quite a unique looking staffy! I love her no matter what she looks like but it is comical!xxxxxxxx

he he he - this thread tickled me.. My male Stafford will be 2 in June, he SO went through the ugly duckling stage, gangly long legs, HUGE ears, and yep even one that didn't rose prick correctly.
But now, he's a handsome little muffin :-)
They all go through it..
The ear might rectify itself, I just (I like to think!!) helped Alf's along by stroking it in the right direction! :-)

Thats exactly what I do to Raven, when shes layin on me I sort of tuck it under. If it works then great if not then at least I will be able to identify her from a distance! Shes nearly 6 months old now so hopefully soon she will start to fill her unusual ears and lanky legs lol!xxxxxxxx

Oh Im sure shes a staff I saw mum and dad but I know what you mean she could be anything with those ears lol! Its strange because my friend has got her brother and he looks like a "proper" staff if you know what I mean, out of the 11 pups I think I got the odd one out shes beautiful to me though!xxxxxxx
