Asked a while ago about getting raw meat "treats" to give to my dog.
Have been trying him with chicken wings for a while and tried again on Saturday. Unfortunately he doesnt seem to know what to do with them :-)
I've been holding them for him and he just sniffs it and gently licks it. I've been trying to put the wing into his mouth and on his back teeth to show him to chew but he's not interested. I thought maybe its because i was holding it so put it on the floor for him (watched him the whole time of course) and he just picked it up, carried it to another part of the kitchen and started playing with it. I tried pulling the sking of (ugh!) to give him somewhere to start and thought he'ds easily pull off the skin and get started, i tried crushing it up so it wasnt so hard to chew-all to no avail. Eventually i was left with a mutilated looking wing and quite disappointed.
Is it that he doesnt like them? or that he doesnt know how to chew them???
Was really looking forward to giving him a treat.
Any ideas???? Thanks

You could try cutting a couple of small pieces of the meat off to let him get a taste (I always use scissors for raw meat, much easier than a knife!). It might be that he's overwhelmed by a whole chicken wing :-D
Bonnie is the same with chicken wings! She acts as if she doesn't know what to do with it for ages. Then runs around with it in her mouth sort of moaning and crying ( I posted about this a while ago and was told that was because she was very excited!)
Eventually she does settle down and crunch it up and swallow it, though you would think' to watch her' that it's all a bit of a traumatic experience!!!
I'll try that. I'm sure once he's got a taste for it he will enjoy but initially he doesnt seem to know what to do.
Did wonder if i should do a demonstration for him but on a raw chicken wing its probably not a great idea :-)

If he seems confused about the wing actually being food you can try flash frying it very quickly in a very hot pan, this can help to tempt a lot of unsure dogs as it releases the smell a bit. You're not cooking the wing in any way, it's literally a quick flash on each side and out again.
He might just not liek them. My girl ha dher first chicken wings when pregnant, to try and tempt her, as she wouldn't eat athing. She loved them, and even guarded the first one (she NEVER guards anything). However, she won't even entertain them now.
