Topic Dog Boards / Health / Paint Toxicity Top Dogs?

Trying ot be polite about this, but finding it extremely hard.

Someone on another forum has posted to say her dog has ingested paint. I am not sure how much. I have suggested she ring her vet, to which the reply was 'I ain't ringin my vet, there's nothing wrong with her apart from being tapped in the head'.

Other than asking for her address so I can send the RSPCA round, as she clearly has no evidence it isn't toxic, but can't be bothered to make a phone call,t here isn't much I can do.

But does anyone know if paint is toxic to dogs?

I would imagine paint is toxic to both humans and animals if ingested, unless is specifically states non-toxic.

Aren't people strange.

I am sure it is toxic, but would hope the dog would dislike the taste enough not to ingest enough to do damage. One thing you CAN do is contact the board moderators, who will possibly be in a position to take action, as they will have the IP adress of this person.

To be honest, I don't think the board mods would do much. I might try though.

I have spokent o my friend, who is a vet receptionist. Luckily she is at work and asked the vet for me. He says as long as the paint is water based, the dog shoudl be fine. If it is spirit based, the dog needs to see a vet. Hopefully the disgusting woman will take the advice, which I have worded as politely as possible so as not to be too offensive.

Well it seems my objection to the person not calling their vet wasn't appreciated. My post saying that my own vet had advised that possibly the dog see a vet was deleted with all other posts saying things slong the lines of 'how funny' that the dog had eaten the paint. Clearly I am freak for wanting to check if something my dog shouldn't have eaten is going to harm it.

I then got a PM from a mod saying that my opinions were not wanted. (I genuinely wasn't rude or offensive0.

It is the same forum on which people have posted that their dogs are a nuisance when in season, yet won't have them spayed as it costs alost £200. Needless to say< I won't be posting there anymore. It makes me too cross.

OMG some people don't genuinally care for their pets, surely at least a phone call to the vets wouldn't have hurt.I was worried because my puppy has a sock fetish and have found the odd pair in his poo..My vet spoke to me on the phone and was really reassuring and helpful. It took a few minutes and didn't cost me or my puppy anything....just reassurance that all was fine.

This makes me so cross. People like that person should not be allowed to keep dogs. I ask myself, if they had a child who ingested paint, would they be laughing about it or would they be calling their doctor for advice? We have a responsibility as owners to commit ourselves totally to the wellbeing of our pets. The health and safety of our pets is paramount and for a person to be laughing at their dog who has ingested paint is absolutely disgusting and outrageous and morally wrong. Some people do not have a conscience and have such a flippant attitude and as for the moderators not wishing to help when clearly there could be a danger to the dog, again is disgusting. I hate people who hide their heads in the sand and do not take responsibility to help. Its cowardly and ignorant IMO. Grrr. It makes me so cross. I really hope that the dog will be ok the poor soul.
