Topic Other Boards / Foo / Newspaper have used a photo I took last year!

Last year I took a few photos for a friend of her LM bitch.   Yesterday she texted me to tell me that her local paper had printed a Crufts round-up of winners in the area (Unbeknown to her) and used one of the photos I had taken, no permission sought etc.  I must say I'm a little annoyed as it doesn't take much to ask for permission from someone especially in this Internet age, most people can be contacted by email or telephone.

Once I have proof, I will be contacting the paper.

breach of copyright is taken very seriously.
I am an artist. I did a drawing of a leopard, from a photo in a magazine, even though I made alterations to my drawing I recieved a letter from the photographer threatening to take me to court (he had seen my ad in a mag). I sought legal advise and was advised to pay the £250 license fee requested by the photographer, or risk being sued for up to £250,000!!!!! (not that I have that sort of money!)
I had no idea that drawing from a photo was a breach of copright, but I am sure the paper that published your photo know full well the ins & out of copyright regs.

I have no idea Sam how they got the photo.  Sandra, who's dog was named & pictured, was surprised to see herself mentioned as no-one from the newspaper had contacted her.   I want to see a copy so I definitely have proof that it's one I took from a series at SKC last year.
