Well thought I would start stripping wallpaper in my bedroom today, wish I hadn't started!! LoL
Whoever put the wallpaper up (not us) has but it straight onto bare plaster so the wallpaper is stuck like you know what to a blanket!
I have tried soapy water soaking then use the stripper tool, coming off in tiny bits but getting no where!#

Has anyone got any suggestions please, I have not got a wallpaper stripper steam thing so what will help me do this job!

Don't score the paper., ( even if told to :-) )

Run over the whole room with the steamer a couple of times BUT don't strip.  Them when you have done it a full two times go back to the beginning and take your time , try and get a corner and pull ..  the best result is taking your time. :-)

I think you just have to keep soaking it and wait for it to soak through to the paste. You might have to go over it a few times and if it is a washable paper or has been emulsioned on top you will probably have to score it to let the water through unless as Blue says you can get hold of a steamer then don't score it or it will all come off in tiny bits. Patience whilst soaking is the only way I know of if you don't have a steamer - soak it all once, go back to the start and soak it all again then have a cuppa, then soak it all again and get someone else to strip it :-D :-D

Try scrubbing over the suface of the paper with a scouring pad (or similar), to break the sealed suface of the wallpaper, it helps allow the water to soak through. My husband is a builder & decorator, he uses this technique along with plenty of soapy water (do make sure you don't get any electrical sockets wet!!!). As the first poster said, don't score the paper (or if you do don't score through the backing layer) otherwise you have no chance of removing larger pieces.  Keep the paper wet the whole time you are stripping it.

i'm with blue, use a steamer! they are brilliant and its so much faster! i had the same prob in my old house, straight on very old plaster. steamers make the paper bubble up and pull straight off.

I agree with the others use a steamer.  One slight issue, if the plaster is in bad condition you can also end up taking it off by mistake so be a bit careful.

Well I have given up, been all this time and have not even completed 1/4 of the wall yet!!  Looked on internet and suggested hot water and vinegar, which made it a bit easier but still not going anywhere fast!! LOL

I have put everything away now, and will give my mum a ring tonight to borrow her steamer!!! Wish I had not started the blasted job!

Just took wallpaper down, that was put up horrid by the previous tenant here.

What I did, was used HOT water, and sprayed it on the paper.  Waited a few minutes, then ripped it off. 

The paste has got to get moist, or you will never get it off.

Ah.  Well have had to do a lot of re plastering here because the plaster came away with the wood chip.

Have opted to paint rather than paper,  so if I ever paper it will make it easier if I need to get it off.

Yes, plaster needs to be 'sealed' first (watered down emulsion is usually used), even if it is going to be painted for it's finish. Something to do with the plaster being very porous & soaking the water out of anything put on it. I think the sealing coat quenches it's thirst ;)

Try Hot water and Vinegar, the vinegar breaks down the paste that sticks the paper to the wall in the first place.

I've always sealed plaster with a coat of wallpaper paste applied directly to the wall before hanging the paper.  You only need to do this for new plaster, old plaster should have been sealed already if it had paper on it

soaking it in water and stripping a tiny bit at a time is normal for all papers (believe me done it a load of times) dont use a steamer! if you have dry walls it will pop the plaster resulting in replastering the whole wall! (again- been there done it got the tee shirt!)
