Hi Bear, running with other dogs is always a problem because on their own puppies tend to restrict themselves to a certain extent but with others the natural competition comes into play. the puppy will try even harder to keep up and even pass the others. A 5 month Shephard is a big dog but he is still very young. even with a big puppy such as this i would be limiting it to no more than 20 minutes of gentle strolling. Obviously, with the longer stride it could be a faster walk than for example, a Yorky, so would cover a greater distance. But really, no ball chasing and no Collie chasing. My only suggestion is to give them all a short walk then put the puppy back into the car and play ball with the adults. Gradually scale up the exercise over the next 5 to 6 months until by around a year you have almost no limit.
Sorry to give bad news but thats my opinion for what it's worth.
Regards, John

Hi John,
Yeah, I pretty much thought that would be the case, its a shame but I don't think I will be able to let him out with the collies at all just now, as even just letting them all out in the garden, he runs about with them, so I suppose he will just have to be exercised alone - poor wee man!
Must admit I am looking forward to him being an adult dog!
Don't look forward to it so much that you miss the enjoyment of the puppy times. They go by wayyyy to fast.

I have enjoyed his puppyhood very much, nothing sweeter than a fluffy puppy, but am just so worried about his health that I can't wait until he reaches adulthood so I can have him hip scored and be put out of my misery. Also, I am looking forward to him being an adult so he can run with his collie pals again, not much fun for either of us just walking about the garden, and he looks at me as if to say 'WHY WOULD I WANT TO RUN AND FETCH THAT BALL WHEN I CAN BE RACING AROUND WITH MY PACK?!!!'
