Is this a UTI diagnosed and being treated already by your vet?  If so I would run it by him/her as it may be the course of treatment prescribed will be affected in some way by introducing other treatments (even non med ones).

I know of several folks who have used cranberry successfully in adult bitches suffering from cystitis (sp) but would not recommend anything for such a young puppy without a vet's direct input.

hi teri,
Thanks for your advice, the puppy had been treated on 1 week of Anti biotics and looked like it has some positive results but did not clear it, so now the vet wants to start her on the 2nd dose of the same ATB's and see but im very reluctant to give her dose after dose of ATB's as this to can have some adverse effects later on...
i will run it over with my vet this afternoon although he does not practice holistic medicine he is a real biomedical man lol...
thanks again Teri

Hi Tishee,
I have a bitch who in her puppyhood had on occasion UTI 's a good course of antibiotics sometimes 2 weeks were required if the infection had really took hold , would clear it up.
I give cranberry tablets every day without fail , if she keeps getting infections they may want to investigate more (some vets do ..like mine) I insisted that I did not want any other tests done until she had her first season as the hormones can also be a factor . We waited and after her first season she no longer suffers with this problem , I would chat to your vet about this to get his opinion.

HTH

Roni

also make sure she is drinking plenty of fluids sometimes when they are playing they forget to drink dont give dry food always soak it, I would give goats milk watered down so that I knew she was drinking plenty throughout the day.

I was wondering whether it could be hormone related? possibly an incompetent sphincter(sp) if a suspected infection hasn't cleared up with AB's, if it continues, a course of propalin might provide a solution until the hormones kick in...................

I agree that is what my vet was considering , I didnt want to give a young pup medicatin so decided to wait.

out of interest does she wet herself ie dribble, touch her in the morning to see if she is wet if so then it may be your vet is thinking about ectopic eureter depending on how many infections she has had , I went through all of this with my vet ,still insisted on waited for the first season and as I said no more problems.

thanks guys for all your advice and help i really appreicate it.......
i took her back to the vets today as it was not clearing up and the vet changed his mind and said juveinille vaginitus(not UTI)...but hoped a 2nd dose of AB's would sort it.. but to no avail so he took a urine test again which has shown 1+ protein and Trace of blood, so he has kept the sample for a culture test to see what bacteria is growing also insisted he took a swab from the vagina... now all i have to do is wait....
i am upset with my self as he talked me out of a swab last week and now i wish i stood my ground...
has anyone had this juvenille vaginitus in a pup before? i have read the previous posts on here RE J.Vaginitus and have the symptoms that all other pups have encountered but she was our pick of the litter for our kennels and it seems all other Akita breeders have never heard of it......(she was a home breed bitch- and from champion lines and both dam and sire have had health screens and good reasults)
i dont want her on loads of Ab's at such a young age but also dont want to leave it and increase the risk of fertility problems....
i wish i could fast rack the results........
anymore help would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks everyone
Tishee xxxxxx
