Hello just wondering if anyone has any advice. My new dog Zak (10 months) is a real chewer. He has chewed the corners of my dining room table, the table legs, the chair legs and I've just got in from work and hes now started on the leather covering! He seems to chew one chair in particular but any will do! At the moment the damage is repairable (OH very good at patch up jobs) but if it gets any worse it will mean a whole new table and chairs and as it was a moving in present from my grandma 18 months ago I don't want to have to replace it! There is also nowhere else to put the table as apart from the lounge the downstairs of my house is open plan. There is certainly no room in the lounge for the table and chairs and I want to solve the problem rather than moving furniture as he will just find something else to chew. My girl went through a chewing stage when she was gettting her teeth but as long as she had raw hide chews and toys to chew she left the furniture alone. We do the same with Zak but he eats chew toys so fast that once theyve gone hes looking for something else. We have tried the spray (used this on the furniture before he started chewing it) but it has no effect - I have caught him licking it off! Any advice please!!!!!!

I have tried every thing for my 1 yr old, hot chlli powder etc.

But what did work is Olbas Oil or Vix rub. I put a tiny bit on the corners she was chewing and she has stopped since

Now don't need to use it

Good Luck

My daughters akita ate the stair carpet and  corner of their leather sofa - £300 to repair :(
They used vicks eventually as well and it worked...just be careful with how much you use

I'm guessing you only need a tiny bit?

Can't belive something so simple that I've had in the bathroom cupboard all this time.

Anyone got any other suggestions on the off chance this doesnt work?

Do not leave your dog unattended near the items he likes or might chew.

Well last night we vicks'ed the furniture he likes chewing (and any possible alternatives). Missy took an instant dislike to it and started barking at the tub but Zak (the chewer) I don't think was at the front of the queue when brains were being giving out - bless him, and he started licking it then tried to lick it straight out the tub! It took him a while to realise that actually he didn't like it that much and after pulling some very funny faces and some persuasion left it alone. Just got in from work and so far so good - no more damage so I will keep my fingers crossed it continues to work.

I agree with Brainless maybe kennel your dog up when your not able to watch 100%... You never know what he may get into that may actually hurt him...

Or when you see your dog chewing try spraying him with a spray bottle but don't let him see you, this way he will think its his actions causing the spray- or even a can filled with rocks something loud you can shake... When you see him chewing stuff offer him a special chew toy that he only gets in return like a stuffed Kong...
