my dog loves them.  they last for ages but they seem to be really salty so she drinks lots after having one.  She left one in the garden one day and a crow picked it up and took it up onto a neighbours roof to eat!  They must be tasty lol

what are they please?

I've always assumed that they are parma ham bones so smoked bits of pig - but I could be wrong!  I buy mine from poundstretcher for £1 but they are now selling in tescos for £1.99

They are cooked, dry bones - dangerous IMO. 

My daughter buys these for her akita and she goes mad for them. She used to be able to buy really huge ones, now all she can find are small ones in Dabners and other pet shops. These are the only bones she (the dog :) ) will eat and not leave until all gone!!

I suppose we all have our own perceptions of danger.  Some say raw food is dangerous, there was people on here recently saying dried kibble is dangerous and others will not feed raw hide or dried bones.  Each to their own.  My dog loves them and has never had any ill effects from them.

My Mals have raw bones and I have a couple of local butchers who keep us well supplied,maybe try your local butcher.Ours is only too keen to give them away.As long as they  are fresh then should be o.k.Ours particuarlly enjoy the large marrow beef bones.My puppy sucks away like mad at the marrow and sounds just like a baby sucking on their dummy.However I don't give mine bones like gammon /ham bones or knuckles as they tend to be very salty.

Are they cooked? When I buy them for my boys who absolutely love them, they tend to 'bleed' a bit on the floor when I take them out of their vacuum packs?

They are LETHAL!  They almost killed my dog.  They are the bones that the Parma ham is cured on for many many months, pet food manufacturers then collect the bones and package them as raw or fresh.  They infact contain a HUGE quantity of salt, and during the length of time they are cured, the bone structure alters allowing it to crumble easily when chewed.  my Dog suffered an impaction from eating just a small amount, it turns into a concrete type sludge.  I did approach the supplier, who has now removed the "raw" bit from the packaging as they are not raw at all.  I would be extremely careful if you feed these, never on this earth would I do it again.

I got one for mine, it was a night mare. Very salty and they drank sooooo much it resulted in them weeing in the house and drinking ++++++ water. So its off the menu now

My 4 Alaskan Malamutes love their bones.They are raw,organic and fresh from my local butchers in Mid Cornwall.They do make a bit of a mess at times,but the important thing is to make sure the bones don't splinter,Lamb bones are the worst for this.Throw away any small bits that the dogs may chew off.Any cooked pork bones are potentially bad due to high salt content and should not be given to dogs eg parma bones,gammon shanks etc.Raw pork ribs are fine as they tend to be soft and easily digested.If you get your bones from a reputable butcher then you will be fine.Don't forget they are from human grade meat!!If the bones smell off or have gone mouldy,don't give them to your dogs.Bones contain calcium and help to clean your dogs teeth as well as occuping them.In my 25 years of owning dogs i have never had any problems - yes I was very young when I owned my first dog,a GSD.Just use a bit of common sense eg dont give a large dog a very small bone.Raw chicken wings are fine as well.Those tripe sticks you can by from pet shops are far more dangerous.They cannot be digested and lie in a dogs gut for ages causing blockages.

Oh dear! Maybe I will stick to raw marrow bones. I give them cow hooves and was going to stock up at Crufts and saw that the guy who I buy them from sells parma bones and that was where I got the idea but maybe some pigs ears will do for a change for them.

Only tried parma bones once and the dogs were ill with them so never again.
