As some of you may know, I live in a flat above a pub. About 10 years ago I went to my bank to secure home insurance and carefully detailed that we lived above a pub as I knew that this would make a difference due to potential fire and theft etc and eventually got insurance (albeit at a much higher rate than a standard 'domestic' rate.)  We have since moved pubs, same area, period building, nothing has changed at all except the address and so I called them to do exactly that.  Apparently they say that they should never have insured me and it must have been a mistake and that I was uninsurable!  They have now cancelled my insurance (without penalty) like that makes me feel better!  I asked why and I was put on hold for about 20 minutes before I hung up as I am at work.  Does anyone know why?  This is one of the top five high street banks we're talking about and I have been a good customer for 19 years!  I'll go to customer services on Saturday and try to get to the bottom of this but wondered if anyone else has had this problem.  I am currently without any home/contents insurance so something is bound to happen.
Thanks for any ideas.

I would contact APlan and get them to have a search for you and explain the circumstances. I can't imagine everybody who lives above a Pub can't get insurance ? What about restaurants etc ? Seems a bit peculiar ?

And iuf they shouldnt have insured you, and you were ininsurable, I would demand all the premiums for the last 10 years back!!!

In Response to Maudlily

If they should never have insured you maybe they should refund you all your premiums taken under false pretences then.

I've seen adverts for a company that state they specialise in insuring customers that other banks won't......don't know if I'm allowed to say who the company is...but I guess someone will edit my post if required???

Anyway - HISCOX is the company - **other companies are available** - their name always makes me giggle for some daft reason.....

might be worth speaking to them??

Thanks all!  I will investigate getting my money back as all in all it is about £4500.  Ooh, new shoes....
Again, thanks.
