As some of you may know, I live in a flat above a pub. About 10 years ago I went to my bank to secure home insurance and carefully detailed that we lived above a pub as I knew that this would make a difference due to potential fire and theft etc and eventually got insurance (albeit at a much higher rate than a standard 'domestic' rate.) We have since moved pubs, same area, period building, nothing has changed at all except the address and so I called them to do exactly that. Apparently they say that they should never have insured me and it must have been a mistake and that I was uninsurable! They have now cancelled my insurance (without penalty) like that makes me feel better! I asked why and I was put on hold for about 20 minutes before I hung up as I am at work. Does anyone know why? This is one of the top five high street banks we're talking about and I have been a good customer for 19 years! I'll go to customer services on Saturday and try to get to the bottom of this but wondered if anyone else has had this problem. I am currently without any home/contents insurance so something is bound to happen.
Thanks for any ideas.
