Topic Other Boards / Foo / George Foreman Grill/Griddle?

Has anyone got one of these. I had a small GF when they first came out but not too fussed with it. Someone I work with says this is a good model to get as you can cook eggs too without all the fat from a frying pan and unfortunately I do have a weakness for bacon and egg sarnies? Any feedback on this would be helpful
Thanks in anticipation

You can cook virtually fat-free eggs in a good non-stick frying pan too ;)  We use a silicone brush to oil the pan - it just leaves a few drops which is enough to stop them sticking ;) then under the grill for the top of the egg unless you like them sunny side up :) :)

ETA - of course, the grill will be hot already, from grilling the bacon :) :)

We have two, one can sit on a bbq stand (supplied) outside it's so big, we love them and couldn't be without them, we use fry light on ours which you can also use in frying pans for virtually fat free frying! My son is a body builder and cooks chicken breasts like there is no tomorrow so it's in use daily for him alone.

I think they are great. As well as the ususal bacon, steak, chops, eggs etc that you can use the grill for, chopped up vegetables taste lush (and are healthy/low in fat) just cut up in thin slices or however you wanna do them, use a brush to coat a tiny bit of oil on the grill and you get a kind of bar-b-g grilled veggie type thing. Yum Yum :-)

Mine is used everyday, we have the bbq one inside my autistic son uses it all the time for his hot sandwiches and at least there is no gas, flames, pans or anything else for him just george.  He says he likes just george cos he can make his own meals on it.

I've got one but its not the GF one.  Mine's the one with the removeable plates - I just find them too hard to clean otherwise.  It's really handy and I use it all the time.  No good for eggs though.

I got one for my birthday a few years ago, but it is scratched now.  the worst thing is trying to clean it.  why oh why does anyone design these or sand which toasters with non removable plates.  Too tight to replace it yet

I also have one that isn't George Foreman and use it nearly every day. I really want to swap it though for one with removeable plates as it is such a pain to clean. Like Barbara though I am too tight to pay out for a new one at the moment!!

I don't mind cleaning my George, I clean it almost straight away while it's still warm/hot, put it on the draining board and pour a boiling kettle over the plates, both top and bottom, using a sponge with washing up liquid I take any debris off and rinse again with boiling water from the kettle, dry with kitchen roll and job done!

craigles that's definitely the best way to clean them, I struggled with mine for a while until a friend showed me this method, now it's so quick and so much cleaner too!

Isn't that dangerous though being an electrical appliance won't the water get in????
- By craigles Date 29.02.08 23:13 UTC
no Barbara as the feet of the george are above the draining board and no water touches any part of the electrics, I have cup hooks above the sink and hook the plug up there.  I tip the water from the kettle spout and guide it on the plates this runs off down down the drainer.  Always works for me this way and so quick, literally two minute job.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 29.02.08 23:20 UTC
I just worry that the water could seep along to the bottom.
- By craigles Date 29.02.08 23:28 UTC
My draining board is independant of the sink and has it's own drainage hole so water just flows away as it's tipped along with the debris from the plates.

I had a George Foreman.  Bought it because my sister raved about it.  Mine was the display model on sale.   I used it once - it went out in the rubbish a couple of months ago.   I use nonstick pans all the time and the Foreman was a pain to use IMO.  Mine had nonremovable grills though - I might have felt different if they were removable.

You can get George Foreman grill scourers/sponges things to clean them, that are shaped to go inbetween the grooves!!
I was given one at Christmas along with a mini grill as I have a massive one already.
Gail :) :) :)
