Hi,
A bit of a strange question but im just wondering if there is anything dog hair would be useful for. Im a dog groomer and i gather ridiculous amounts of dog hair which i just put out for the binmen. I know some people put it out for birds to use in their nests, but i doubt i could put a bin liner full out! Any ideas?????

I watched a program a few years ago where hair was being collected from hairdressers, being put in old tights and used to help clean up big oil spills in the sea. Don't know how you would find out about it but maybe somebody else on here does.

I have often wondered if you could make loft insulation out of dog fur. Husky fur would be especially good! :D

I know someone who used to spin their Chow Chows' fur and make waistcoats :)

something in dog press recently about a dog groomer that was making hair into jewellery. I know they can do that with pet ashes BUT I get all quivery when I think of that. My 'team' will stay in the sittingroom with me and all the family have instructions that they have to go with me when I go.

I quite like the idea of having ashes made into jewellery. I would like to have something beautiful that I can keep with me wherever I go to remind me of my dogs but it is incredibly expensive. I think I would like to be made into a diamond as well!

A man who used to come to our training class used to take Ayshas hair home with him one night he turned up with a hat his wife had spun for me using Ayshas hair and sheeps wool.
Thanks for all the ideas, ill try and do some digging and find out if theres somewhere i can send it for spinning!

I put all mine outside for the birds in the spring. They seem to love it for nest making .

I don't need to put mine out for the birds ... lol ... they just come and take what they want from the garden ... must be good stuff as the two ringed neck doves(i thought they were wood pigeons at first but neighbour told me otherwise ) that live in the tree's had two babes last year and are still about taking it this time .. even though it is early .. i am just glad it is freezing in the mornings now so i can get all the fur in one go ... lol ... no daft woman chasing bits of fluff down the garden ..

Ugh - the thought of clothes made from dog hair makes me itch... I can't even wear wool!

Give me natural fibres over man made any day. :D
we use fibres from lots of animals, sheep goats silk worms and of course their hides as leather or fur. Nothing against Fur or sheepskin off food animals. Also we sleep under and on their feathers and down.
At one time I had saved 5lbs of wool from my lot but threw it out in the end as ti would have been a bit costly to get spun, and I didn't know anyone that did it themselves.
