Hi Im looking for a new commuting car and have looked at both these models and can't decide. Like the reputation of Toyota as reliable but don't know much about the reliability of Citreon. Any thoughts/experience?

A friend of mine has a citreon and says she would never have one again.  I have an old Suzuki Vitara and have to say it is brilliant.  Such a reliable car.  I would go for the Japanese one LOL

I have an Aygo. :-) :-)  NEVER ever had a small car but I honestly love it.   Wee quirky thing to and quite nippy. I can turn it round 360 in my drive.  You will be impressed with the inside space as it is all body.  I read reviews apon reviews when I bought mine the only comment was boot space But I have had well over £100 of shopping in mine as it is so deep.   I have the Aygo black and I bought the 5 door. ( a must for depreciation I think and of course practicality)  I bought it brand new Sept 2006 never had any bother with it at all.   Would not buy the other two you mention just based on repuation and I think the Aygo has a very sporty look about it that the others dont. Love the front of it.  There were some things you got as standard with Toyota that made the little extra in price just so much more worth it to.

The real reason I bought it was just for a nip around 2nd car and my daughter is nearly 18 and learning to drive so I can add her to the insurance cheaply and it is a perfect size for her.  She thinks it is super trendy.  It will end up her car soon enough. 

My insurance on the car is £80 per year  ( pre my daughter) and the tax is £30 or £35 PER YEAR !!.. mental eh

I shopped around and got a really good deal with Arnold Clark Toyota, I even haggled the air con out of them also. 

Not a buy I regret which was suprising for me as I like a big car normally.

I too thought I'd only ever have larger cars with the dogs and kids to ferry about but we have decided that with it costing me well over £50 per week in petrol for the focus estate I use now, we needed an alternative for the commute. I have heard good things about the fuel economy do you find this is the case?
I really quite excited after seeing the Platinum SE this afternoon just hope the drive lives up to it (from what you're saying it will). Boot space won't be a problem as we will be keeping the focus for muddy dogs and kids!!

To be honest I haven't tested the fuel but it is definately well over 50 MPG.

The back seats spilt ok and lie quite flat.  I got up one day to go to a dog show to find something digital flashing on my estate car so was scared to take it to the show. I actually got a table and 2 dog boxes in the back with the seats down and jut met my freind at the show for her trolley. I laughed about it so much as I only had it a few days.

I think with these small qwirky cars colour and features make a huge difference to whether they are hip or not :-) :-)   the silver etc didn't really do it for me.    Overall although we wbought it I still prefer the black as the back glass door is all black to and it just all flows together. The interior is all black also.

I too like the Black but the leather in the Platinum is attracting me if they did in Red/Black it would be sold on me. Better not mention to OH that you managed to fit cages/dogs etc in it as I think he suggested it thinking we would have a dog free car!!(no space in boot!) As my lot are very hairy and love swimming and paddling in puddles the Focus has suffered. Thanks for the link!

LOL it was the only time we had dogs in it.  Unless I am just nipping to the vet.  Mines are small so they go in the boxes all the time in the car with a towel over them. :-)   I hate hairy cars.  My Mondeo has a full cream leather interior, perfect for my breed..

You might find if you are a bit more open minded and good at haggling that you can get or pick up one of the others at a great price. I only paid £7500 and that was everything the alloys, air con etc.   I think the only difference is the leathering to the seats. They black has the other little things on the Plat.   Brilliant wee car for the money I think.

Definately Toyota over Citroen!

Just read the review on the TopGear website looks good! My 9 year old daughter made me laugh earlier when she said Toyotas were indestructible as Jeremy Clarkson had apparently blown one up and it still ran!!( I think it was a truck)  Don't watch him myself but my 14yr old son got the DVD for Christmas. I can just see their faces now when mum arrives in the 'supermini' when shes expecting a monster truck!! I'm sure it will grow on her.
Now just need to psych myself up to haggle the leather aircon and alloys out of the dealership......if only I was more assertive..

My friend tows an Aygo behind her enormous motorhome, she thinks it's brill.

Oh Tooolz, I saw someone doing that recently.  Thought it was a brilliant idea really when you are set up somewhere for a weekend or longer. Saves taking the motorhome to Safeway.  :-)

I've a Citroen picasso and its great. No problems at all. My mums hubby has one too with 260,000 miles on the clock with very few problems. Both are diesels and make good work horses.
The trouble is with cars is some are great while others have a friday build about them. You should have seen my BMW when I had one. 3 years old and rubbish. I had it for a year and then got so fed up with its poor design work, breakdowns and faults I got rid of it.

It could have been them, they live in Lincs,now retired,and have decided to see the length and breadth of the country. So off they go- park up then tour around daily in their little car. It used to be a motorbike but they're getting soft!!

Ive just bought the new citroen C4 and i love it.overall performence is good fuel economy is ok..very roomy and a excellent drive

Ive never had a new car before in fact I have only ever had Fords in 20 years of driving. i knew the ins/tax etc was low but the insurance is verrry low!! Couldn't believe it when I got my quote.

You will have fun and I tell you , you will be suprised when you put the seats down what you can do with it, they go completely flat. even with the normal boot I can get a good £120-£150 of food shopping in as it is deep, does the job. I think I said already my insurance for the little thing was £80.     Our little car is like the float car for the house it is there on the drive for anyone to jump in.   It was cheap to buy, cheap to run, I think I will have something like that for life as a spare car.

What C4 is it?  I had a quick look at the C4 Grand picasso recently  , not made on citroens at all but it loosk fab space inside for the dogs.
