I have had my acrylic nails removed and my natural nails are looking a bit worse for wear,  very weak and a bit ridgey.   I had a look in boots and they do so many nail treatments and oils and stuff I'm not sure where to start.  I ahev used the sally hansen before but wasn't that impressed.  Can you clever people reccomend anything that will help get my nails back to normal.
Thanks,
C

Mum had Gel nails for a few years as her nails were so wek. When she had trhem taken off they were even worse than they were before. Like paper!!!
She started taking this supplement :- http://www.healthspan.co.uk/anti_ageing/healthspans_hair_nail_capsules-c156p317.html
And this is mums words after I have just asked her if they help :-
they are completely different now they don't flake and don't break like they used to although I do keep them shorter now than I did, growing them long is no good for mine at all so I don't try
She also says iut takes a little while, but they do help :)HTH

Hi there,

I am qualified in manicure and pedicures! Unfortunately the process of acrylic nails invlove filing the nail plate away and the more inexperienced the technician the worse it will be.  You have to wait until the natural nail has grown all the way up to the top again which can take some months, quicker in summer than in winter.  Do not buff your nails, this will make them thinner.  Try getting Nail Envy from OPI, I think you can get it from Boots, it's not cheap but is a protective layer and will make your nails less unsightly.  Very gently massage hand cream on the bit of the finger just below where the nail starts.  This will stimulate blood flow and oxygen to the base of the nail plate which is starting to grow.
Hope this helps :)

I used an aloe and oatmeal based hand cream, and it seemed to make a little improvement.

I have seen the nail envy in Boots, about 15quid I think.  However if it's good I'm willing to try it.  Also I'll pop into Holland & Barratt and see what nail supplements they have.

I don't think I'll be having the nail extensions again though, whole finger tips feel really sensitive.  Thanks for all advice.

OPI nail envy is excellent.  Worth checking out qvc website for bargains.

I had my nails took off last year when I went to have an op, never had them put back, took a while for them to get right but now 6 months later they are lovely, better than they were previous to having gel nails on.  I wouldn't have them again, I have once worn false nails when I went out and they looked good.

OPI is good stuff and wouls also recommend soaking your nails in warm olive oil (if youve got time) to stregthen them

I use an almond oil based treatment which is good for keeping my nails supple but when I had my acrylic nails removed after a botch job they were awful and had to wait for full regrowth to have half decent nails.

after having acrylics over xmas by nails went horrible and bendy and didnt grow.  Ive now had the biosculpture stuff put on which is similar to gel nails and its great, apparantly it strengthens and promotes the growth of natural nails,  already my nails have really grown and its made them really strong.

Vitamin E oil is great rubbed into nails to condition them and soften cuticles - I also use it as a face moisturiser :-D

It costs about £2.50 ish for a small bottle from Superdrug, but it lasts for aaaaaaages.

Claire :-)

Jessica phenomenoil for your cuticles and apply Jessica critical care onto the nail, excellent treatments.
