this is the 4th and last attempt at mating my bitch, so i had blood tests done, the results came back today as mate today and 3 days, problem is we tried mating and she is so tight, has anyone come accross this problem before or is this normal, do you think she is over, tests on thursday came back as not ready yet, thanks

I tend to go by nature, if bitch or dog isnt co operating, then I'd leave it, they are wiser than we are.  I remember years ago a friend had a bitch that the dog couldnt entre.  When examined by vet he advised against breeding as the bitch would have needed a section as something not quite right at her bits. The dog seemed to know as he didnt force the issue.

she has had matings before with no problem, we put the 3 missed to wrong days thats why we have done blood tests, the dog is very keen and she is flirting and lifting, the problem is she is so tight and dry, never seen it before, went back to vets and he said the results are correct, i am very comfused, she was more swollen the other day and has shrunk down, do you think she may have gone over

With the blood ts what is the vet telling you.  If they are telling you she ovulated today the  the eggs will not be ripe for anther two days from ovulation and will live a further two days so you have four days from ovulation to get her mated.

I had a bitch here who had been tried with a dog on previous seasons ans showed herself willing from day 12 but he couldn't manage to mate her.

I had her here and was expecting the same result as same behaviour, so on day 15 I took her to the vet who said she was very tight and she coudln't see hwo the dog could mate her and signed a letter to that efect for the bitch owwner.

Next morning day 16 the dog mated her and for two days after that, result a healthy litter of 6 pups.

My own Kizi was always very small yet mated no problem.

What I was trying to say is does your vet know that the ova aren't ripe until two days after ovualtion, many tell the owner to mate on the day of ovualtion, many bitches will and many won't and some dogs won't either, until the eggs are ripe two days later.

I know a man who is good at mating dogs, where there seems to be problems etc!  If you want to PM me I could give you details.  He lives in Stafford so not to far away from you.  We tried a few times with Anton to mate a bitch 9 weeks ago and just couldn't do it so took them both to this person, within minutes he was there and had a good tie.

After being told 4 weeks ago that she wasn't pregnant and then 2 weeks ago that she was, she hopefully is going to have them in the next 24 hours!  AGAIN NOT AN ADVERTISEMENT AS SHE'S ONLY HAVING ONE OR TWO AND THEY ARE ALREADY SOLD!!

thanks, we tried mating yesterday and she was much better, i think the vet must have told us she was ready instead of ovulating we are doing her tomorrow and if she will stand thursday, i wanted to use idexx, but it clashed over weekend so i used the vets in house test, i do hope they have got it right, they havent give me much confidence :)

It is unusual if the premate test said ready that she wouldn't stand in my opinion. They normally start standing around 2-3 days before ovulation.

That isn't really how the test works she may have been at stage 3 when the vet said mate today and in 2 days but they can only say that if their had been a test 2 days before and then she has been retested 2-3 after this so you know ovulation has taken place.

It is either colour coded or number.. mines is number system just now.. lets see if you can understand this..  so many people discredit the tests but it is generally because they haven't been followed through properly.

Stage C1   : Miles off ready for mating.

Stage C2   : Hormone rising but still not ready.
Stage C3   : Hormone peaking ( most bitches ovulate just after this stage however some dont) so you are best to retest the test instruction will advise mate 1 day from              now and 3 days from now or re test in 2 days to be sure.
Stage C4  ovulation has taken place but if you didn't do a blood test 2 days before this you can miss her at this stage if you don't know when she ovulated..

i had a test done on thursday and she was C2, i saw that on the screen, then sat they said she was ready to mate, we tried her and it was impossible, yet yesterday it was much better, i bet it was c3 ie mate 1 & 3 days, we are doing her again tomorrow and i will just have to keep my fingers crossed lol

Blue with my bitches they will not usually stand and often the dog is only half hearted until they have ripe eggs rather than when they ovulate, this may be the reason the bitches generally whelp earlier 61 days rather than 63 days most being about two days earlier often more, as they mate later in the cycle.

I have only ever had proven bitches that were rather hoydenish stand earlier.

What you are hoping for is C4 then you know she has ovulated and will hopefully take.

A friend of mine had the blood test told by vet not ready test again in 2 days she tested her on the matetel and was completely covered in ferns so she went ahead and mated her easy mating with the result of 11 puppies!

That doesn't mean the test was wrong if you mate a bitch that is nearly ready there is a huge likeness she will take as the sperm lives for so long.

The tests are only as good as those carry then out ie the owners and also the person reading the results ie the vet or vet nurse.  Just like scans etc.

I generally do my first mating at C3 which is just before ovulation , bitches standing fine they always have taken.

If fact if you didn't do any test and mate 20 bitches at day 12 most would take :-)
