My husband & I have been dog owners all our lives apart from the past 4 years when we were moving around with our jobs quite a bit. We are now settled in our house in Wimbledon but it is not a home without a dog. We have always had rescue dogs and would like to give a home to a Cocker. We are both out at work all day but have made enquiries in our area and have sourced a couple of dog walkers. My husband works close to home and would come home at lunchtime some days and some days take the dog to work with him, so the walker would not be an everyday arrangement. We would like an older dog who is perhaps the victim of a broken marriage or owner dying. Are we being selfish in wanting a dog and would this arrangement be unfair to him or her? We spend most weekends outdoors or going places in the car to find new walks so his/her weekend would be spent with us all the time. We are very torn as we desperately want a dog again but also don't want to be selfich dog owners. Your veiws please would be most welcome whether they are positive or negative, we would also like to hear from anyone who has used the Cocker rescue society or anyone who knows of a dog needing a home.
Many thanks

I think the arrangement you are proposing could work fairly well with the right dog. It largely depends on just how long the dog would be left etc. The problem with rescue dogs is you don't always get a full history and they need as much time to settle in as a new puppy. Quite often rescue centres won't home at all with people who are working.
I don't think it's selfish to want a dog - just selfish to go ahead and ignore what the dog needs over your own desires - jmho, but you are thinking about the dogs future too.
Have you been in touch with Cocker rescue? If you register with the forum, you'll be able to come back and ask more questions and answer some of ours so that we can help you find the right dog for you.
