Sorry if I ramble but I am so pleased with Maxy my Gordon Setter and our agility training session last night!  Went to agility having not been for a few weeks due to various things!

Just a bit of backgroud when Max started about a year ago he was like Bambi on the dogwalk and it took us far longer than the others in our group to get to grips with it!  But as soon as he mastered it, it became his favorite in fact such to the extent that he usually makes a bee-line for any contact obstacle during training!

We haven't competed yet and I have also not considered it as we haven't mastered the see-saw and Max has probably only been on it half a dozen or so times all with me leading him and the see-saw being supported on the down.

We arrived last night to training and the see-saw was out - first time up I worried about it and grabbed him - the trainer was holding the other end for him.  Got told off for grabbing him by the trainer (sorry Max!) - second time didn't hold him just asked him to wait when he got to the top - trainer held the end again so Max didn't bang or leap off.

He did the see-saw around 4 times and was waiting great - still with the trainer supporting it on the down.

Sometimes Max has his 'setter' moments of doing his own course which is usually - dog-walk, a-frame, dog-walk, a-frame and the odd jump in between and to some extent he did this last night but boy was he having a ball!

At one point I think we went up and down the dog walk five times just because Max wanted too :)   His tail did not stop all night wagging!  He was so happy to be having such fun! :)

At one point I had mucked up a slalom of jumps so the trainer was talking to me about what to do and Max had found the see-saw but instead of going up and banging it he waited and set it down slowly - I was over the moon! I made such a fuss of him my little star - although I still am not sure of competing - perhaps if the course was jump, contact, jump contact we may stand a chance! :)  Oh and mabye Max had  a better handler who doesn't get so flustered :)

Sorry for rambling but OH doesn't share my enthusiasm for these things sometimes :)

Yes, come on Rachel, Alf has only been doing agility for a few months and im entering him in the "anysize" jumping classes, which is a fun class for beginner dogs or veteran dogs, the jumps are lower and there are no contacts or weaves.

We need some Setter back up at these agility shows !!
