I was looking on a breed clubs website and there is a person showing dogs under a certain prefix. The prefix in question is a famous one in the breed and the lady whos prefix it was died about 15yrs ago.

How can someone now be using the same prefix?

Quite easily. The name could have been transferred over either prior to death, or in a will, or the new person could have taken it on after a few years. Once an AFFIX is not in use for so long anyone can ask to use it. It's only if that particular affix has been taken on for life by a particular club that an affix can't be used again.

I suppose it is nice the name carries on but I was shocked to see it when i knew the lady had died. I knew her well. I believe the person using it did actually buy his original dogs from her so that would be the connection.

In the past the Kennel names was used at the end of a dogs name and correctly called an affix, then the kennel club decided they should be at the start of the name so more properly a prefix, but people still called it 'Affix'. 

The Kennel club now call it a 'Kennel name' but we still all tend to call it an affix.

My friend applied to have her Grandmothers affix when she started breeding and it was granted, even though her own Mum has another.

If you breed a dog & you have a kennel name it goes at the front, if you didn't breed the dog or it's parents you can add your Kennel Name"at the end of the registered name, unless you bred both parents & hold a kennel name then the Kennel Name must go at the front
