- By emma5673 [gb] Date 04.02.08 20:30 UTC
Hi I have rec my kc reg certificate for my dog but i paid for the 5 gen paper work. The certificate cam but not the 5 generation which i paid extra for. Should it come with the other paper work or does it come seperate?

The breeder should have explained these to you, both verbally and in writing.

I got her from a friend who brought the whole litter and the mum! I don't think she was aware of them either. I will call her to see

The endorsements should have been explained to you by the breeder who should have got you to sign either the puppy contract or separately to show you were aware of them.

There are two possible endorsements 'progeny not eligible for registration' which means you could not register any puppies from your dog/bitch unless you apply to the person that put them on to lift them.  Also the other one is 'Not eligible for the issue of an export pedigree' which will stop a pup being exported to another country for showing or breeding registered litters.

The reason breeders put endorsements on puppy registrations is to protect the individual and the breed from irresponsible breeding.  the breeder may lift them if the dog turns out to be breeding quality, has had satisfactory results with health screening, and the breeder is happy that the would be breeder understands the implications and responsibilities of breeding.

All it states is endorsements nothing else .....Does this mean there is or not ...If there were should it read Endorsements then what they are?
- By Brainless [gb] Date 04.02.08 20:54 UTC
If it just says endorsements that is the heading, under it it would have one or both of the ones I quoted, so sounds like they don't have any.

Does it have anything under the health schemes headings?  depending on the breed it should have Hip score results and dates for the parents, and eye tests etc.

IS this a new puppy or the 1 year old?
- By emma5673 [gb] Date 04.02.08 21:00 UTC
No it just has endorsements nothing else. We didn't think she had any on her. My other bitch has and thats fine, I understand why breeders do it.

Thanks for your advice

The health part it has in bold Health screening then KC/BVA SCHEMES and DNA tests

I am looking forward to the 5 gen to have a look at.

She is a cairn

Again that is just the headings so looks like there have been no health tests.

Dear all

Thanks for  your replies in this matter

There are no necessary health tests done for either cairn terriers or west highland white terrier, they do not need to be screened.

The reason I asked is I wondered when you had paid for the Pedigree was it recently or when you got her? Best to call the KC.

One thing I will add ( not directed at the poster but just as a sidenote)  I think a lot of pet buyers get so caught up in the puppy or just saying yes yes to the breeder the forget half of what went on at collection and what they signed.

One of my freinds had a call from a puppy buyer from 2 years ago asking if my freind could forward the KC docs and the pedigree etc  , my freind told her she received them all on collection of pup including the puppy contract which they would have signed. The woman went on and on that she hadn't and that the breeder had made a mistake.

Of course my freind was a bit suspicious but confidently went straight to her records pulled the file and there was the copy of everything including the signed contact etc.

She called the lady back told her that she had the copies but if the new owner hadn't sent the form the KC then a new one would need ordered etc etc . Anyway my freind arranged it all and the couple came round to get duplicate.    The woman was crimson red when my freind produced the copies of everything including the 4 page clearly read and signed contract.

It can at times make you angry :-)

Thsi is one of the reasons I now put the contract as the final page in my puppy booklet.  It starts off with lots of lovely glossy pics, showing parents and grandparetns if possible, then lots of pics of the litter from birth onwards.  I worked out that whilst the majority of my puppy people managed to hang on to the photos I gave them, lots lost the printed info, so now it is all bound together, with an attractive cover.  It has the breed info, then care details and next the page with all the relevant health stuff, such as worming dates, vaccination, mocrochip etc.  Have considered actually putting an extra copy of the pedigree in here too, but decided against it!  This way I caluclate they hang on to the contract and the health info, even if they lose the KC form!
bye
Gwen
