Does anyone on the forum own a irish wolfhound do they get on with other dogs?.,are they fairly easy to groom temperment wise what are they like.
We have 2 great dane bitches at the moment.

I'm new to this forum, but not new to wolfhounds!! I have four and have to say they are all very different, one brother and sister (3yrs old)who were rescues and two others, the eldest (8yrs) is the most docile laid back dog you could ever hope to meet and will even tolerate the cat lying on top of her, however the bitch of the two siblings can be very dominant, if you have danes size obviously doesn't bother you, but I have to say I have had a scary moment when the rescue bitch decided she wanted to eat my little terrier, before that moment I had never seen nor heard of an agressive wolfhound,  I only got the siblings when they were two and nobody could tell me anything of their history, from their behaviour they were not lead trained and didn't know how to react to being stroked, so can only assume they had very little human contact or indeed any other contact, but being the size and strength they are it was not a good moment, happy to say terrier came out ok and keeps well clear!!  You do need to groom them as they can get matted, people that show them strip their coats.

wolfhounds should be very gentle dogs, suitable to live with any breed, although you have to watch they dont accidentally knock or sit on one by mistake. When the Drakesleat kennel still had Wolfhounds they lived with and got on great with the Min Wire Dachshunds - although obviously did not all sleep together overnight.

I don't own a wolfhound but would love to :)  I have spoken many times to owners at Crufts and they all say they are the gentlest of giants - big softies.  No aggression or anything like that.  They just seem lovely dogs.  All the ones I have cuddled into have just been really up for a bit of being a sap!!  A bit big for my personal situation but I'd love one - one day :)

I loved the Irish Wolfhound that was on that show on TV 'The Underdogs Show'  Matt isnt to fond of them!
