Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / is this cruel
- By stanyer21 [gb] Date 02.02.08 23:19 UTC
hi i dont really know much about breeding as have never done it, but my sisters neighbour had a jack russell who is approx a year. it had a litter of pups about 5 month ago and is pregnant again. is this cruel or not. i just feel like all they are thinking about is making money out of there dog.

that IS shocking. unfortunatly there isnt anything we can do about it. these people have not got any morals.  I dont believe anyone should make money out of breeding.  let alone breeding from babies!
- By denese [gb] Date 02.02.08 23:57 UTC
Unfortunatly while people buy puppies, of babies having babies, there are people that will do this!
Then when the bitch is of no further use to them, they get rid of her.
They can not K C them If they have had two litters off the bitch in one year.
I feel the only thing to try and stop them is to name and shame.
You can tell the breeding club, it may make a diffrence! At least no-one will recommend her as having a litter.

If it is a Jack Russel they arnt KC registered anyway. But I doubt, even if it was a breed that could be, they would bother with a KC registered one!!!!
Poor baby :(

I would say it is cruel as well as immoral in the fact that in nature a bitch that young would not be alpha enough to breed, and also in the wild canids only have seasons once a year.
- By stanyer21 [gb] Date 03.02.08 11:35 UTC
so is there nothing i can do. can i not report them.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 03.02.08 11:41 UTC
nope, unless they are commercial registered breeders where in the law breeding from a bitch under 1 year and without a 12 month gap is illegal.

so (sorry never knew this) can jack russels not be Kc or what im confused????

The Parson Russell Terrier is a recognised KC breed http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/item/82.  the Jack Russell is recognised by the FCI so of course can be registered if you live in Ireland who are affiliated to the FCI and show under their International breed standards, Jack Russell standard (No illustration) here: http://www.fci.be/uploaded_files/345a2004_en.doc.

I think its disgusting.
No bitch should be expected to have 2 litters when she is only just a year old, the poor thing.

I would do everything in my power to stop them even if it meant telling them what immoral people they are
:(

Sadly the world is full of unthinking uncaring people.  Just this weekend when chatting to a sales assistant in a shop - as you do - I told her I showed dogs and she told me she had a lovely bitch she was looking for a mate for her.  I asked the breed and she said its a Newfie/Border Collie cross.  Stopped listening round about there only to catch that as she is so small for the breed ? her breeder said she should look for a nice dog so she could have a least one litter not quite 10 months old.

Illegal no Immoral, in our eyes, can we do anything about it not unless she is a breeder.

What a sad world.

and unfortunately echo, while people continue to buy the pups, people like her will continue to breed. Im surprised she didn't tell you how much money she was going to make - thats the sort of thing i wouild have expected her to say after telling you all the other stuff.

Hi Freds Mum

She didn't get that far as she messed up my debit card payment (twice) on the furniture I wanted to buy and I walked out of the shop.  It kinda let me know just how bright she was.
- By Freds Mum [gb] Date 04.02.08 14:33 UTC
well theres the proof, she really is as thick as she sounds! lol :-)

Report her to the tax man, the local dog warden might be able to help. We had this problem with Abbys breeder and the kennel Club did register two litters from the one bitch in one year, they didnt care all they were interested in was the money.

This story is horrid.  What about calling the animal control/humaine society.  Its unhealthy to breed a dog that young, and then to have litters back to back on such a young dog, horrid.
Cruel, I would say yes.  Illegal No.  Immoral Yes.

Normally my posts have a bit more "flow" to them, but with this post, for some reason I am mad about the situation, but yet I am speechless.
