Just been sorting through my large collection of Dog books and came across some very interesting books.

I was given the books by a Cocker Spaniel breeder when I was a little girl.

One book is by Eric Fitch Daglish called The Breeders Manual and it is the first edition dated in 1951.

Another I have book that dates back to 1952, has many photo pictures in it of the King and Prince's dogs in Britian, and has lots of old remedies in it for curing and treating sick dogs, one even treatment even tells you how to shoot your canine if there is no cure!! shocking. but I guess that is how it was done in some households.

I would never want to part with these books as they are special to me, but was just wondering if anyone knew if books, such as these would sell at auction / or be of any value?

Never considered the value of my books, and certianly don't have any first editions, but I do have a wonderful reprint of an early 1900s pug book, including very old phtot plates, which is fabulous.  Also have (but only taking care of, don't actually own) a very hard to find American Cocker Book by the wonderful Michael Allen (now sadly deceased) which is the definitive work on the bred and breed standard - priceless in my opinion.

Just found that the medical book I have is actually dated 1931!! very old remedies in it on how to treat different canine illnesses and injuries, and very interesting photos and plates.
Have looked on the net and found that one of my books could be work about £40!! busy today but hope to look up the others and just see out of interest.
I also have a collection of certain breed books that date back some years including, whippets, cocker spaniel, beagle and Golden Retriever.
Very interesting readings
