Topic Dog Boards / General / Planned litters??? New section??
- By Gunner [gb] Date 25.01.08 12:10 UTC
Hi
Am trying currently to help a friend purchase a pup - she is after a breed that I am not overly familiar with, so have no idea of future planned matings as I have no contacts in the breed.  So, other than sitting on the phone most evenings we are struggling making speculative calls to all and sundry and are bound to be missing some 'gems'.    Not sure whether this would go against the 'terms' of the board but was just wondering whether anyone saw the need for a section where breeders could post their planned litters for say the next 12 months?   Or indeed whether there is somewhere else that I could obtain such info from?

As there is no guarantee that the matings would be successful (or indeed that the bitch would come into season when desired) I am hoping that no-one would construe this as advertising.  Thoughts please?

My first port of call would be to that particular breed's Breed Club.  If you go to the Kennel Club site, then go to the revevant breed standard, the Breed Club Secretary's name will be at the bottom :-)

Have you posted ont he searching section of this post where you can mention the breed?

Hiya
Been there, done that!  All we got was a list of current litters.  :-(  Yes, we found names of some more breeders and are currently ploughing our way through the listing and gleaning info as we go.  Dread to think what my phone bill will be this quarter.

Tx for your suggestion though.

In Response to Gunner

My own breed club runs such a list asking that breeders let the secretary know up to 12 months ahead of their breeding plans, and of course they have details of any current litters which may have pups left, but only 15 to 20 litters are bred a year.

I think in more easily available breeds they have lists of current litters as there are always some available.

If your Friend is interested in particular bloodlines or pairings then the slog of contacting relevant breeders asking about their plans is the only way to go.

A planned litter list is advertising, and I know that another canine site charges for inclusion on just such a list.

I think choosing the breeder over what litters are planned is the way I would do it :-) I know that breeder may not be planning one for a long time but if you have chosen that breeder because of the quality of the line and the health testing is done then they can give sound advice of who they feel would be a good breeder to contact and often will know about planned litters.

You can mention the breed here as you are not selling a litter.  Tell us what breed and I'm sure someone will be able to point you in the right direction!

Have you added your details to the Champdogs Waiting List ?

You will then be notified by email when a litter that meets your criteria is added to the Champdogs Puppy Register.

can you go with your friend to some shows where they know they definitely will be shown and ask some of the people showing about their recommendations as they are likely to know where good litters are likely to be or are planned.

To Brainless:

Could you PM me the site you are referring to pls so that I could check it out?
Thanks.

Perrodeagua
It's a hungarian wirehaired vizsla she's after.

I would try and get to their club show.  There she can purchase a catalogue and note the dogs she likes and who bred them.

Sorry don't really know much about the breed and the only available one was a young female and she's been rehomed now.

Hi, we have a HWV and we spent a long time researching the breed, choosing a breeder and then waiting for a puppy.  Just curious, did your friend find a pup or breeder?

This is our first 'Wire' (and first show dog) and we were interested to note that the number of people recognising the breed dramatically increased after a Wire won Friends for Life at Crufts this year!!  The breed show in April refelected this interest and I know there were a lot of 'breed researchers' there!  I wonder if it had an impact on waiting lists...
