My parents have recently rescued a lovely little cross breed bitch.
She had been starved and mistreated and attacked leaving huge scars on her lovely little face. (It is starting to heal nicely now though).
She has settled in brilliantly into their home, obviously taking to the love and security they offer her. She is confident with our dog and my sisters dog and plays like she has had no cares in the world. Sometimes quite dominantly !
However, although they have moved mountains and trained her to be clean during the night, she still wets inside the home during the day. Could anyone throw any light on this one. Any advise would be gratefully accepted, as my Mum and Dad are wondering what they are doing wrong.

Depending on the breed (some little breeeds can be hard to housetrain) and her past, possible lack of training, it could be that it hasn't clicked in her head yet, that going say in another room, or 10 feet from her bed isn't the same as going outside.

My other thought would be to have her checked for urinary infection, and possibly urinary incontinence if spayed. If she is fine in this departement, then she should be trained like a new puppy.

She should be confined to a room or romms that are easily cleaned. she should be taken outside after waking, eating, playing and every hour or two throughout the day. at some point she will perform in their presense, for which she should be lavishly praised. They should use a word or phrase for the action, eg. be clean etc. She should eventually associate those words with going, and they will be able to get ther to go on command when they travel, or are away and need her to go.

I would suggest using a crate for the short periods when she cannot be supervised. If she doesn't have accidents, she will lose the habit of wetting indoors.

Also use a biological cleaner to clean accidents, not bleach or disinfectant which seem to attract them back to the same spot.
